Jon Bon Jovi's life - Sex and the City to being named 'Person Of The Year'

Jon Bon Jovi was named MusiCares 2024's Person of the Year due to his musical achievements and philanthropic work. He is known to be the frontman of the 1980s band, Bon Jovi

Jon Bon Jovi is a man of many talents and this year he will be celebrating 62 years of life.


John Francis Bongiovi Jr. was born on March 2, 1962 in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. He is a singer, songwriter, guitarist and artist who is best known as the frontman of the 1980s band, Bon Jovi. The band is best known for their songs like Livin' on a Prayer, It's My Life, I'll be There for You and You Give Love a Bad Name.

MusiCares named Jon Bon Jovi as the 2024 MusiCares Person of the Year in October 2023 due to his "extensive musical achievement" and "impactful philanthropic work." He is not only a Grammy-award winning artist, but also an actor.

Jon starred in the 1995 film Moonlight and Valentino, The Leading Man (1996), Little City (1997), Homegrown (1998), Pay It Forward (2000), U-571 (2000) and Cry Wolf (2005) and appeared on television shows such as Sex and the City, 30 Rock, Ally McBeal and The West Wing.

Jon began playing music at the age of 13 and formed his first band Raze, which took part in a talent contest at his school. His music was inspired by Bruce Springsteen and the Asbury Jukes and would play at clubs at the age of 16 with the band he formed called the Atlantic City Expressway.

David Bryan was the keyboardist, who later became a member of the Bon Jovi band. Jon also performed with bands called The Rest, The Lechers and John Bongiovi and the Wild Ones, throughout his career.


Jon recorded his first single, Runaway, in 1980, which was played at a local radio station. The song was a success but Jon realized that if he wanted to become bigger, he needed more. According to Biography, Jon called David, Tico Torres and guitarist Richie Sambora and became the band people love today. The band signed then signed to PolyGram.

Bon Jovi released its self-titled debut album in 1984, which was followed with the 1985 album 7800° Fahrenheit. In 1986, the releasd the Slippery When Wet album, which included the songs Livin' on a Prayer and Wanted Dead or Alive. The album sold in excess of 14million copies, putting the group's album sales at the same level as Michael Jackson's Thriller. Since then, the band has released a total of 15 studio albums and have been nominated for nine Grammys.

When Jon is not creating music or acting, fans could guess that he is spending time with his family. The star married his high school sweetheart, Dorothea Bongiovi, in 1989 and share four kids together: daughter Stephanie, 30, and sons Jesse, 29, Jake, 21, and Romeo, 19. Jon also created the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation, which helps fund "innovative community efforts to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness," according to its website.
