Last photos of Limp Bizkit's Sam Rivers show the rapper in a relaxed state of mind

Limp Bizkit's Sam Rivers had posted to social media in a seemingly relaxed setting shortly before the bassist tragically passed away at 48 years old from an unknown cause

Sam Rivers, founding bassist of rap-rock band Limp Bizkit, has died at 48, the band announced Saturday, as his final pictures loom. No cause of death has been disclosed.

The Florida native's death came months after he shared what would become his final social media post, a cheerful August post from London showing him relaxed in the plush back seat of his car. "I hope everyone is having a great day. In London with my fav and and the LB Fam #limpbizkit #limpbizkitstyle #limpbizkitfamily #nothingbutlove," Rivers wrote on Instagram. The post's comment section has since been filled with messages from grieving fans.

Rivers' bandmates released a joint statement expressing their profound loss. "In Loving Memory of Our Brother, Sam Rivers. Today we lost our brother. Our bandmate. Our heartbeat," the statement read.

"Sam Rivers wasn't just our bass player - he was pure magic. The pulse beneath every song, the calm in the chaos, the soul in the sound."

The band's statement continued, "From the first note we ever played together, Sam brought a light and a rhythm that could never be replaced. His talent was effortless, his presence unforgettable, his heart enormous. We shared so many moments — wild ones, quiet ones, beautiful ones — and every one of them meant more because Sam was there."

Their tribute concluded, "He was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of human. A true legend of legends. And his spirit will live forever in every groove, every stage, every memory. We love you, Sam. We'll carry you with us, always. Rest easy, brother. Your music never ends. — Fred, Wes, John & DJ Lethal."

DJ Lethal posted separately, "We love you Sam rivers. Please respect the family's privacy at this moment. Give Sam his flowers and play Sam rivers basslines all day! We are in shock. Rest in power my brother! You will live on through your music and the lives you helped save with your music, charity work and friendships. We are heartbroken enjoy every millisecond of life. It's not guaranteed."

A Jacksonville native, Rivers established Limp Bizkit in 1994 with singer Fred Durst and drummer John Otto.

Guitarist Wes Borland and DJ Lethal joined shortly after. The band revolutionized turn-of-the-millennium rock with their tracks Break Stuff, My Way, Behind Blue Eyes and Take a Look Around.

Their albums Significant Other and Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water achieved multi-platinum status, with four releases earning platinum status or higher.

The group received three Grammy Award nominations and won a Billboard Music Award during their peak.

Rivers left the group in 2015 following a liver disease diagnosis.
