Charli XCX responds to Taylor Swift feud following 'Actually Romantic' diss track
After Taylor released a song on her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, supposedly referencing Charli XCX, the British singer has hit back in a newly released interview
Charli XCX has subtly responded to rumors of a feud between her and Taylor Swift in a recent interview, following the release of Taylor's supposed diss track.
Charli has been rumored to be the inspiration behind a juicy line in Taylor's new song "Actually Romantic," which says, "Wrote me a song sayin’ it makes you sick to see my face. I heard you call me ‘Boring Barbie’ when the coke's got you brave."
Fans believe Taylor is responding to Charli's song, "Sympathy is a Knife," in which the singer calls out a girlfriend of one of her husband's bandmates. Her husband, George Daniel, is in The 1975 alongside Matty Healy, who dated Taylor in 2023. It comes as the alleged feud has been rumbling for some time.
In the song, Charli sings, "Don't wanna see her backstage at my boyfriend's show. Fingers crossed behind my back, I hope they break up quick," with fans assuming that the lyrics are about Taylor and Matty.
However, following the release of Taylor's Actually Romantic, Charli responded to the feud in a rather subtle way.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Charli was asked about her relationship with Taylor, to which she "declined to comment on the situation."
But it was her comments about a tour documentary that led fans to believe she was referencing Taylor. This is because the 35-year-old has recently announced her Disney+ Eras Tour documentary, which will be released in December.
Charli explained that she had already shut down the idea of doing her own tour documentary for Brat as she "felt the market was already saturated with similar projects."
"I feel like my problem with a lot of musician documentaries is, it often shows the musician coming up against some kind of opposition and eventually overcoming it to be the hero," she added.
This comes as Charli wore a suggestive top on Saturday Night Live recently. During a performance with ROLE MODEL, the 33-year-old wore a top saying "Max's Kansas City," which references a nightclub in Kansas.
However, people believe this may be a nudge to Taylor, whose fiancé, Travis Kelce, plays for the Kansas City Chiefs.
"Iconic cameo and that 'Boring Barbie' top is the petty cherry on top! Charli and Role Model just owned SNL!" One X user wrote, as another added, "Kansas City T-shirt?!?! Sorry, but..."
A third X user also asked, "Is this recent? If so, is the KC shirt rage bait?"
