Does Sinners have a post-credits scene? Ending explained as director 'shuts down' possible sequel

A new blockbuster horror film has just hit theaters, but is this the dawn of a thrilling new franchise?

Warning - this article contains major spoilers for Sinners.

Sinners is currently on the big screen and is on track to become one of 2025’s biggest surprise hits.

The historical horror epic takes place in the Deep South in the 1930s and follows twin brothers Smoke and Stack (played by Michael B Jordan), who return to their hometown to open up a new juke joint.

After reuniting with their cousin, Sammie ‘Preacher Boy’ Moore (Miles Caton) and their former lovers Annie (Wunmi Mosaku) and Mary (Hailee Steinfeld), their grand opening is ambushed by a sinister group of unwelcome guests.

Directed by Ryan Coogler, the acclaimed filmmaker behind Fruitvale Station, Creed, and Black Panther, Sinners is already being called one of the best films of the year. But could there be a sequel?

Does Sinners have a post-credits scene?

Movie buffs are being encouraged to stay throughout the credits as Sinners features not one but two stingers after the final scene.

By the end of the film, Smoke and Sammie have survived the raid led by the vampiric Remmick (Jack O’Connell), but Stack and Mary succumbed to the curse.

60 years after the events of the film, Sammie is a famous blues musician in Chicago with his own club and is paid a visit by Stack and Mary, who haven’t aged a day.

He’s offered to join them in immortality but refuses, before Sammie agrees to play them a song and tells Stack the day before the attack was the best day of his life, asking his cousin if he felt the same.

Stack agrees, as it was the last time he spoke to his brother, saw the sun, and felt truly free.

Finally, after the extended credits, viewers are treated to a last performance by Caton as younger Sammie, playing a rendition of This Little Light of Mine on his guitar.

Will Sinners have a sequel?

Despite the mid-credits stinger potentially setting up some vampire action in 1990s Chicago, it appears Coogler isn’t so keen to go the Marvel route for Sinners.

Speaking to Ebony about a potential follow-up, the filmmaker admitted: “I never think about that.”

He went on with a disappointing update for fans who have already devoured Sinners: “I’ve been in a space of making franchise films for a bit, so I wanted to get away from that.

“I wanted the movie to feel like a full meal.

“I wanted it to be a holistic and finished thing. That was how I was asked all about it. That was always my intention.”

Even so, there’s still a chance Coogler changes his mind if Sinners proves to be a hit for Warner Bros over the coming weeks.

Sinners is in theaters now.
