Netflix's Dublin-based drama 'Grown Ups' reveals star-studded cast
Netflix has announced the full cast for its upcoming drama Grown Ups, based on the bestselling novel of the same name
Netflix has revealed the celebrity-packed lineup for its upcoming Dublin-set drama that has just begun production. Adapted from Marian Keyes' chart-topping 2020 novel of the same title, Grown Ups chronicles the experiences of the tight-knit Casey family.
The eight-episode series unfolds following a family member's passing, which triggers the Caseys to wrestle with their sorrow alongside other "seismic" feelings.
Netflix's description states: "Set in south county Dublin, Grown Ups follows the chaotic lives of the Casey clan, a noisy tight-knit Irish family, who are bound together by a tangled web of loyalty, resentment, money, memory and love. When the rock of the family, the 'good son', dies unexpectedly, it sets off a seismic emotional reckoning." The news comes after Rick and Morty fans say the same thing after a huge 'The End' announcement.
It continues: "Over the course of the next year, the Caseys will fall in and out of love, confront old wounds and make some new ones. They'll be forced to face not only their grief, but the exhausting, relentless, and often ridiculous struggle of being an adult. Despite their age and responsibilities, the Caseys are far from grown up."
The streaming platform has verified that filming is currently underway in and around Dublin.
Netflix has also disclosed the cast lineup, and it's brimming with Irish performers.
Normal People actress Sarah Greene is slated to portray Jessie, while her Bad Sisters co-star, Barry Ward, takes on the character of Johnny. Joining the cast is Irish actress Aisling Bea, known for creating and starring in Channel 4's This Way Up, who will be playing Cara.
Adding to the Irish talent is Robert Sheehan, famous for his role in Misfits, who will be portraying Liam.
The ensemble also includes Adrian Dunbar from Line of Duty as Canice, and Sinéad Cusack as Rose.
Amy-Leigh Hickman, an English actress, will take on the role of Nell, while German actress Karin Hanczewski will star as Ed.
Newcomer James Agnew will play Ferdia, and Katelyn Rose Downey, known for her role in Blade Runner 2099, will portray Saoirse.
Grown Ups was penned by Sam Strauss, who also wrote the hit Netflix drama Apple Cider Vinegar.
Upon the start of production, she expressed: "I know I'm not alone in being obsessed with every word Marian Keyes has ever written, and it is a true life highlight to be trusted with her characters as we bring the Casey family and the world of Grown Ups to Netflix."
The series will be directed by James Griffiths, Ciaran Donnelly, Manda Levin, Henrietta Lee, and Mona Qureshi.
