Woman orders mystery box from Shein for 62 cents and is left floored by contents
A woman was browsing Shein and decided to add a mystery box to her cart, but she was left floored when she finally received the parcel as it didn't match the description
When Thamara Carvalho decided to add a Shein 'mystery box' to her online shopping cart, she was thrilled at the prospect of what little surprises it might contain. The budget retailer had tempted her with the addition of the mystery box, which only cost her an extra "62 cents," so she felt like she couldn't say no.
"It said surprise blind box, completely random, and I'm like, yes, you know, it's like I'm paying for my own Christmas gift. Let's do it," Thamara shared. She revealed that there were several mystery boxes to choose from, so she selected the "bracelets and jewelry" option.
"Why not?" she thought as she added it to her cart. However, she would soon discover why she should have resisted the impulse buy.
Thamara recounted: "All of a sudden, I get a box from Target, and I was like, I did not order anything from Target".
She was puzzled as to how someone had obtained her full name, address, and phone number, especially since the courier had called her because they couldn't access her apartment complex.
"I was like, how does Target have all this information?" she continued, describing the situation as "so random".
Eventually, she managed to collect the package intended for her and opened it.
"Inside the box was this," she exclaimed, holding up a glue stick for the camera to see, before bursting into laughter.
However, she hadn't put two and two together at this point and remained convinced someone had placed an order using her account.
Admittedly, she was baffled as to why anyone would choose a glue stick, but she couldn't think of any other explanation.
But she then spotted that her Shein mystery package showed it had been delivered.
She reached out to customer service to report it had been delivered but wasn't there, explaining that she couldn't locate the mystery box anywhere.
"I went to check on the UPS tracking system, and it says it was delivered, it had a picture, and then the picture is the Target box," she revealed.
"How is Shein delivering stuff from Target? I guess if you're going to get a mystery box from Shein and it says that it's a bracelet, expect to get something from Target, and I got some glue sticks," Thamara joked.
However, in the comments, one woman revealed that she'd ordered four of the mystery boxes and managed to strike gold with some of them.
She wrote that she got: "Box 1 Father's Day flag. Box 2 perfume. Box 3 gold costume jewelry, including necklaces and a ring. Box 4 , beaded kids jewelry".
Thamara replied: "This is actually so good!! You got so lucky".
According to Shein's website, the mystery boxes could include anything from "1,000 unique, random items".
Shein has been contacted for comment.
