Here's everything you need to know about which stores are open on Indigenous Peoples' Day, or Columbus Day
It’s Indigenous Peoples’ Day, so if you need to make a trip to the grocery store, you may have to wait until tomorrow.
The federal holiday celebrates Native history in the U.S., and schools are usually let out for the day. It recognizes the traditions of the many Native tribes still around in the country, as well as their contributions to modern culture and life.
The day was previously called Columbus Day, which recognizes Italian explorer Christopher Columbus who led the Spanish exploration that landed in the Americas in 1492. Some states still recognize it as such, while others, like California and New York, now celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
