Donald Trump savaged by Gavin Newsom over unflattering ‘bulging’ pics
Donald Trump marked the one-year anniversary of his short stint working at a McDonald's by sharing a video of the campaign photo op - but critics were quick to mock his physique
California Governor Gavin Newsom seized on the one-year milestone of Donald Trump's brief McDonald's stint as a chance to mercilessly mock the president by posting an unflattering photo from the campaign stunt. "ICONIC! One year ago, President @realDonaldTrump worked at @McDonalds," Trump's official War Room account posted on X this Monday, accompanied by footage of the president manning the counter at a Pennsylvania McDonald's location.
During the closing stretch of his campaign last October, Trump traded his business suit for an apron to work a short shift at a McDonald's drive-thru in Bucks County.
Newsom fired back at the Trump War Room's video by simply posting a picture that captured the president in a form-fitting white shirt after he had shed his jacket to don the apron.
Critics immediately pounced on the opportunity to mock the 79 year old's appearance, reports the Irish Star. "Incredible... look at his majestic bulbous bulging physique. Oh to see him in person one day," one user replied.
"He sure took advantage of the free meals employees get," another person chimed in.
A third commenter wrote: "It's like a beanbag chair swallowed a man and gave him a red tie as ransom. two sacks of mashed potatoes slap-fighting under a windbreaker."
The California Governor's press office also shared the clip on X, writing: "One like and we'll send him back behind the grill." One person responded: "Trump will love working in McDonald's again. He can eat all the Big Macs he could ever want."
A second commented: "They wouldn't let Trump work the grill. Something about the fire hazard that Donald calls his 'hair style'.."
A third added: "One of the epic things about this stunt by Trump is his refusal to even pretend to work there. He casually made a few fries and handed out a couple of bags. Mind boggling how it was seen as such a triumph for him."
California utilized the identical photograph to ridicule Trump after Pete Hegseth declared he no longer wanted to see "fat generals" in the military last month.
"I guess the Commander in Chief needs to go!" Newsom said on X as he shared the image.
The president operated as a fry cook during his short appearance at the McDonald's location and subsequently delivered meals to patrons through the drive-thru window.
The fast-food establishment remained shuttered to the general public throughout Trump's appearance and the patrons he assisted had been pre-approved by his campaign staff and completed security checks, NBC News reported.
His appearance followed weeks of his obsession with Kamala Harris' previous employment at McDonald's during her college years.
In 2019, Harris revealed she'd operated the fryer during her McDonald's job as a young woman. Harris often mentioned her middle-class upbringing during the 2024 presidential campaign, including her stint at McDonald's, in an attempt to connect with voters.
Trump, a well-known fan of McDonald's, was fixated on Harris' claim of working for the fast-food chain.
While campaigning in 2024, Trump frequently accused Harris, without any proof, of fabricating her employment at McDonald's. "I'm looking for a job," Trump told the owner of a McDonald's in Feasterville-Trevose during a visit last year.
"And I've always wanted to work at McDonald's, but I never did. I'm running against somebody that said she did, but it turned out to be a totally phony story.
"I've now worked for 15 minutes more than Kamala," he later quipped.
According to a campaign official who spoke to CNN, Harris worked at a McDonald's in Alameda, California, during the summer of 1983 while she was still a student at Howard University in Washington.
She manned the cash register and operated the fryer and ice cream machines, the official stated. Trump's love for fast food, particularly McDonald's, is well-documented.
The president has been snapped eating McDonald's on his campaign plane, and according to two former top aides, his go-to order is two Big Macs, two Fillet-O-Fish, and a chocolate milkshake.
When asked about his favorite item at McDonald's, Trump responded, "I like it all. I like every ounce of it, everything," adding, "But I do like the french fries, where I'll be working."
