'I watched Donald Trump's Rose Garden speech and five moments were totally unhinged'
The president hosted a lunch at the newly-renovated White House Rose Garden, which he controversially paved over to build a patio for such events over the summer, receiving fierce bipartisan backlash
U.S. President Donald Trump gave a typical rambling 45-minute-long speech at a lunch for the Rose Garden Club Tuesday.
The president hosted a lunch at the newly-renovated White House Rose Garden, which he controversially paved over to build a patio for such events over the summer, receiving fierce bipartisan backlash. It is estimated that the project cost $1.9 million.
It comes after he made controversial switches to the presidential portraits hung in the Oval Office and began a new $250 million ballroom construction project to the East Wing of the White House. It will be paid for with private funding.
The real estate mogul boasted about his construction projects at the top of his speech before ranting about current events.
He made several bizarre and exaggerated remarks during the speech that were noteworthy.
Trump bragged about 'beautiful Black women' in Chicago wearing MAGA merch to not get 'mugged and shot'
Trump made crude remarks about Black women while boasting about his and the Republican Party's success at courting Black and brown communities, noting that they historically vote Democrat.
"It's now harder for a Democrat because if you've seen what we've done with the Hispanics, the Black workers and Black men, and recently a poll came out with Black men and women, we're doing so well."
It is unclear what poll he is referring to, though a recent AtlasIntel found that 54% of Black voters approve of Trump.
The president believes the GOP has been able to win over the key POC demographic groups over its strong stance against crime.
"They want security, they don't want to have their city destroyed," Trump said at the Rose Club Garden event.
"Women in Chicago, beautiful Black women, walking around with red MAGA hats because they don't want to be mugged and shot and everything else," he continued. "Then you see a Democrat get up and tell you how safe it is, Chicago."
Trump attempted to explain the copper wire issues with air traffic control systems after it sparked several blackouts
Trump lamented about the current problems faced by air traffic controllers, which he blamed on the former Biden administration.
"There's Pete Buttigieg [Biden's Secretary of Transportation], he spent billions of dollars on fixing the air traffic control," Trump said.
Attempting to explain the mechanics of air traffic control systems, he said, "They used copper wire going into glass wire. Any union electrician here or any non-union electrician would say you can't hook copper into glass. It doesn't work. They spent billions of dollars, they turned on the system, and it was stone cold blank."
Several air traffic control system blackouts this year have been sparked by malfunctioning copper wire that date back to the 1970s. Air traffic controllers were traumatized by the experience, which sparked travel delays.
Trump has said the Federal Aviation Administration is working to expedite the installation of new fiber optic lines at airports to address the issue.
Trump called NYC Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani a 'communist'
The president referred to New York's Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani as a "communist." Mamdani is a member of the Democratic Party and the Democratic Socialists of America, which fights for workers rights and seeks equal distribution of wealth.
'We have to win the midterms or else all the things are going to be taken away by the Radical Left lunatics," Trump warned. "I mean, we're gonna end up with a communist mayor in New York. Can you believe it? A communist.
"I always used to say we will not have a socialist elected in our country. Remember? I'd say that all the time. And I was right. We skipped socialist, we got a communist elected. So I didn't tell a lie, I was right. We have a communist, not a socialist."
Trump claimed GOP has a 92% of losing congressional control in the 2026 Midterm Election
Speaking to lawmakers, Trump expressed frustration that the midterms might not go in his favor despite all of his purported successes.
"The people understand. We're giving you the biggest tax cuts in history. All of these things, it all adds up. We should do fantastically well in the midterms," he began. "The only thing wrong with the midterms is that, statistically, when you look, a president gets elected and for some reason and nobody, not even the great [Senate Majority Leader] John Thune, can explain to me.
"For some reason, even if it's a reasonably good president— and we've had success like nobody—but for some reason you lose the midterm. I don't know why," he continued. "The odds are tremendously against us, like 92% of something. It doesn't make sense.
"If you have a great presidency, it only makes sense that you win the midterms. So, there should be no reason for it," he added. "There might be some dark, deep illogical reason where they want to vote the opposite way."
It is widely true that incumbents tend to struggle during election cycles, a trend reflected in recent elections worldwide. However, The Mirror US could not find any publicly available studies to verify the wild claim at press time.
Trump referred to White House Director of the Office of Management and Budget Russ Vought as 'Darth Vader'
Trump spent a considerably amount of time ranting about the federal government shutdown that began at the beginning of the month.
At one point, he made a bizarre comparison between White House Director of the Office of Management and Budget, Russ Vought, a Project 2025 architect who has been slashing and halting federal funding and positions, and the villain of the science-fiction series, Star Wars.
"We have Darth Vader. You know Darth Vader, right? Darth Vader is a man who is sitting -- is that Darth? Stand up please Darth. Does everybody know -- they call him Darth Vader, I call him a fine man," Trump said. "But he's cutting Democrat priorities and they're never gonna get them back."
