A disturbing social media video shows the moments a baby is nearly hit with a tear gas canister during a fraught ICE raid.
The video, which was taken in Chicago and posted to X, begins with ICE agents swarming a residential area, heavily armed and wearing tactical gear. In one moment, an agent can be seen throwing what appears to be a tear gas canister before it explodes. Other clips show protesters running and grabbing the canisters as they begin to set off, and throwing them in the opposite direction.
In one scene, people can be seen running away from the officers as more smoke erupts, turning the suburban streets into what looks like a war zone. Plumes of smoke grow and people take cover behind cars, while one person can be heard saying, “There’s a baby in that car, man.”
Soon after, people can be seen running to a brown car, with one person emerging from the back of the car with an infant in a baby carrier, while the other person grasps the carrier and they hold it together. As the pair walks with the baby, they flinch from an object that appears to be a tear gas canister thrown in their direction, landing a few feet in front of them.
Another person can be heard yelling, “put the baby in the house,” as the scene continues to unfold.
Another video of the same incident, posted by Republicans Against Trump on X, shows footage of ICE officers running after and tackling a man in a blue hoodie after he throws a canister at his feet in the opposite direction.
The incidents captured on video are among many disturbing events emerging from Chicago.
On Sunday afternoon, the Albany Park neighborhood of Chicago was left shocked after at least four vehicles of federal agents had taken a man and tear-gassed their neighborhood as residents responded, reports the Chicago Sun Times.
The outlet reports that attorney Samay Gheewala spoke to Chicago police officers in the 3200 block of West Wilson while his hands bled after being shoved to the ground by federal agents.
It reports that Ald. Rossana Rodriguez-Sanchez led a crowd of rapid responders as they ran towards the sounds of a whistle blowing and shouts from community members alerting everyone that federal agents were around. They said at least one person had been taken by federal agents at the intersection of Wilson and Sawyer avenues, but that another had gotten away during the response.
