Packers coach shares reality of Aaron Rodgers 'storyline' ahead of Steelers reunion
Aaron Rodgers will face his former team on Sunday Night Football with the Pittsburgh Steelers set to come up against the Green Bay Packers as his former coach has spoken on the match-up
Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur has played down the magnitude of Aaron Rodgers returning to face the team for the first time since he left.
Rodgers will go down as one of the greatest Packers of all time, having spent 18 years with the franchise, bringing the organization a Super Bowl and winning four MVP awards.
After spending two years with the Jets, before being cut after the 2024 season, Rodgers signed with Steelers and has begun playing at an elite level once again, aged 41. His impressive play has even seen reports that he could return to the team for the 2026 season.
But for now, his focus will be on defeating his former team, with his old head coach not looking to make the game bigger than what it is.
LaFleur said: "It's as simple as that [a game between the Steelers and Packers].
"That's for you guys to talk about. We have a lot of respect for Aaron and what he's done here. He's a Hall-of-Famer. I know our past together, we had a lot of great moments but the game isn't about that.
"For us, it's about going to Pittsburgh, Sunday Night Football, our guys will be jacked up, their guys will be jacked up.
"It's about the Green Bay Packers versus the Pittsburgh Steelers and you guys can talk about all those other storylines."
The Packers and Steelers are both on four wins while looking to establish themselves among the Super Bowl favorites in the NFC and AFC.
Pittsburgh look to be clear-cut favorites to win the AFC North amid Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow's injuries at their rival Baltimore Raven and Cincinnati Bengals.
The Steelers made a big move to trade for DK Metcalf from the Seattle Seahawks, making him one of the highest-paid receivers in the league - a move that is looking like it's worked out for both teams amid Jaxon Smith-Njigba's emergence.
Metcalf has scored four touchdowns with 406 yards through six games while establishing a good connection with Rodgers - with the team looking like they may need another wide receiver.
They have been linked with a trade for Tennessee Titans receiver Calvin Ridley to join them, with the team potentially being big sellers before the trade deadline.
