Pat McAfee refuses to rule out Aaron Rodgers scenario after Vikings stance emerges

Aaron Rodgers is said to be meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday after having said to have interest from both the Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants while continuing to decide on his future

Pat McAfee is not 100% sure that Aaron Rodgers will play this upcoming season after the Minnesota Vikings made their decision not to pursue him.

While the quarterback has remained silent throughout his free agency process after being released by the New York Jets, rumors have suggested that he has been awaiting on the Vikings - which looked to be his first-option this offseason.

However, Minnesota have made it known that they will be starting JJ McCarthy this upcoming year. And while not taking themselves out of the picture to sign Rodgers, the 41-year-old is now unlikely to want to continue playing as a back-up.

While having concrete interest from both the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants, the quarterback is not certain to continue playing this upcoming year. One of his close friends in Pat McAfee, believes that it is not a done deal that he does return.

Speaking on his Pat McAfee Show, he said: "Aaron hasn’t said (expletive). There’s not a lot of people that are in the Aaron circle that have any idea of what’s happening. And we only know that because we’ve been on this ride for the past five or six years, you know.

"And we have no idea. AJ I don’t even think knows. It’s all very interesting with Aaron, always is, always has been... I don't think we can rule out Aaron Rodgers potentially retiring."

On Friday, Rodgers will meet with the Steelers for the first time, who will have him in the facility to meet with the coaches, with a contract potentially on the table.

Rodgers appears to be Pittsburgh's first-choice option, appearing happy to miss out on both Justin Fields, who has joined the New York Jets, and Russell Wilson, the latter remaining a free agent. While Rodgers has been linked to the Giants, the NFC East team are likely to divert to Wilson should the former agree to join the Steelers.

The veteran quarterback will turn 42 years old in the 2025 season, coming off the back of one of the worst seasons in his career, leading to the Jets axing him.
