Angel Reese makes Terence Crawford locker room gesture after Sky injury controversy

Fans were stunned to see the height difference between Angel Reese and boxer Terence Crawford after the pair met ahead of his fight with Canelo Alvarez

Fans were left stunned by Angel Reese's height after the WNBA star met up with boxer Terence Crawford ahead of his fight against Canelo Alvarez.

Saturday night at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas saw Crawford defeat Alvarez in front of 70,000 fans, one of which was Reese. In defeating Alvaraz, Crawford becomes the first male fighter to be an undisputed champion across three weight divisions in the four-belt era, with the latter winning on points.

Prior to the fight, which was streamed on Netflix, Reese, who has been the subject of plenty of drama lately, was spotted meeting Crawford, with the Sky star dwarfing the boxer with her height.

The pair shook hands before sharing a quick embrace, with Reese introducing a friend to Crawford before they posed for a picture. Reese, who is listed at 6ft3in, could be heard telling Crawford, who is listed at 5ft8in, that this was her first boxing fight she had attended.

"Is she wearing tall shoes or something is she really that tall," asked one fan on social media after witnessing the interaction between the two.

"She’s hugeee or he’s tiny - I can’t tell which it is," said another.

A third pointed out that given their height difference, the fact Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell's 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' was playing in the background, it was an ironic encounter between the two sporting stars.

"Ain't no mountain high playing while they are taking that photo is very funny to me," they wrote.

A fourth commented: "someone get Crawford a stool to stand on… wow." And a fifth said: "Angel Reese absolutely towering over Terence Crawford in his locker room before the Canelo fight."

In the end, Reese proved to be a good luck charm for Crawford after he defeated Alvarez on points. However, the WNBA star will wish that luck could have been spread to the Sky during her chaotic sophomore season.

Reese has been dealing with injuries throughout the 2025 season. As a result, the Sky's play on the court has been impacted by the absence of their star. They finished up the regular season by missing the playoffs, with the Sky posting a record of 10-34, tied for the worst record in the WNBA alongside the Dallas Wings.

She also recently was suspended by the Sky after making statements deemed detrimental to the team, following an interview she conducted with the Chicago Tribune that saw her openly criticise her teammates and the direction of the franchise.

In an official statement, the organization emphasized its values.

The statement read: "The Chicago Sky values the safety, respect, and well-being of every player. We are committed to accountability so our players can stay focused on playing basketball.

"Because of statements detrimental to the team made by Angel Reese during league-mandated media, she will not play in the first half of the game on September 7 against the Las Vegas Aces. This matter has been handled and resolved internally, and we are moving forward as a team."
