LeBron James sued by salty Lakers fan 'duped' by 'The Second Decision'

A Los Angeles Lakers fan is suing LeBron James after he claims he was duped by the legendary NBA player's recent 'Decision' announcement that turned out to be a Hennessy advert

One Los Angeles Lakers fan is so irate with LeBron James' recent "The Second Decision" stunt, so much so that they have decided to sue the legendary NBA star.

Earlier this week, James announced he would be taking his talents to Hennessey. Before the announcement, some believed that James could be about to make a statement about retiring from the NBA, even after he picked up his $52.6 million player option back in June.

However, what actually transpired was the confirmation that James would be partnering with the alcohol brand. Mirroring his original 2010 "The Decision" announcement, in which he confirmed he would be leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Miami Heat, James said he was "taking his talents to Hennessey VSOP."

He went on to explain how the decision to partner with Hennessey was going to give him "the best opportunity to win more at hosting, and not only that, but win at signature cocktails, win at having a good time, win at impressing guests, win at making memories, win at making it look easy, win at people wanting more.

While James reshared the advert on social media with several laughing emojis, hinting that he knew fans may have been expecting him to provide an update about his future, it has now been confirmed that one fan was left so annoyed at the announcement that he is suing the Lakers star.

TMZ reports that 29-year-old Lakers fan, Andrew Garcia, is suing James for costing him hundreds of dollars.

Earlier this week, when James took to social media to tease he had a big decision to make, Garcia believed James would be announcing he would be retiring at the end of the upcoming season.

The Lakers fan then promptly went to Ticketmaster to purchase some tickets for what would be, if he retired this season, James' last matchup against his former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, on March 31, 2026.

The two tickets cost $432.83 apiece, totaling $865.66 for the pair. However, after the Hennessey advert was released, the value of the ticket prices lost almost all of their value, according to TMZ.

Garcia wrote in his lawsuit that the 40-year-old owes him due to "fraud, deception, misrepresentation, and any and all basis of legal recovery." Speaking to TMZ, he also added: "I wouldn't have purchased it if he wasn't going to retire. Plain and simple."

One individual who certainly would have no sympathy for Garcia is Lakers head coach JJ Redick.

"You guys are idiots," replied Redick when asked by reporters if anyone had texted him about James possibly retiring.

"We all knew it was an ad right? ... nobody was freaking out."
