NBA icon Michael Jordan's $14M mansion now lies abandoned as NBC analyst can't sell it
NBA legend Michael Jordan's former mansion in Highland Park, Illinois, has been on the market for nearly a decade, but has yet to secure a buyer despite its luxurious amenities
Despite his legendary status in basketball, boasting a Hall of Fame induction, six NBA titles, and five league MVPs, Michael Jordan's former Chicago mansion remains unsold. The property has been on the market since 2012.
The iconic sports figure's old residence is located in Highland Park, Illinois, and despite being on the market for over a decade, it hasn't found a buyer. Originally listed at $29 million in March 2012, the asking price for the property at 2700 Point Ln has been slashed to $14.8 million, as per Baird and Warner Real Estate. The basketball icon isn't short of cash, however.
Despite this significant price cut, potential buyers seem uninterested. And recent footage shared on TikTok shows the property is currently abandoned, with flooding on the old basketball courts and the once-state-of-the-art gym in disrepair. Jordan will make his NBC debut this week as an analyst - and Cris Collinsworth has already given an idea of what the NBA icon's role will be.
Constructed in 1995, the sprawling estate spans 7.39 acres and offers a whopping 32,683 square feet of living space. Nestled in the affluent 60035 zip code area of Highland Park, the average household income here is $242,190.
However, less than 40.5 percent of households in the neighboring cities of Highland Park, Highwood, and Lake Forest earn over $200,000 annually. This makes the acquisition of such a luxurious property a challenge from a residential perspective. According to Property Club, the home is situated in Illinois' 11th richest area.
The property has been listed on Zillow for 1,010 days and continues to sit unsold, raising questions about why a home with such a storied past and luxurious features has yet to find a buyer. The surrounding neighborhood continues to be filled with more modest millionaire homes as it sits.
The mansion of basketball legend Jordan is decked out with a plethora of extravagant amenities designed for an NBA superstar's lifestyle. It boasts nine bedrooms, 19 bathrooms, a regulation-sized basketball gymnasium, a circular infinity pool, a putting green, a tennis court, and a cigar room, all adorned with tributes to Jordan's illustrious NBA career.
The entrance gate to the property proudly displays Jordan's iconic number 23, leaving no doubt about the home's owner. Inside, the mansion is packed with features such as a laundry room, a library, a sprawling 1,056-square-foot living room, an office, a study, a den, a dining room, and multiple family rooms.
The estate also provides parking for 14 cars and a heated driveway to tackle Chicago's infamously chilly winters. Outdoor luxuries include a private in-ground pool, fishing-friendly waterfront ponds, and an outdoor grilling area complete with a fire pit.
Despite its offerings and ties to one of basketball's greatest players, the mansion has proven challenging to sell. According to Sole Retriever, Jordan even offered a pair of every edition of his signature Air Jordans as a sweetener for potential buyers.
Yet, even this personalized MJ offer hasn't been enough to close the deal. A $1.6 million home just a stone's throw away, boasting similar amenities including four bedrooms and five bathrooms, was listed for 17 days and sold on Aug. 1.
Zillow reports that another home, just an eight-minute drive away, was sold for a whopping $1.3 billion, a $10k increase from its listed price. In the past four months alone, at least six mansions valued at over $1 million have changed hands in the same neighborhood as Jordan's.
