Roblox and Fortnite down as Amazon Web Services suffer massive outage

The popular gaming websites Roblox and Fortnite appear to be down, as Amazon Web Services, which power many websites, experience huge issues.

Gaming websites such as Roblox and Fortnite have stopped working, due to a widespread issue with Amazon Web Services that is impacting much of the internet on Monday morning.

Additionally, users of popular apps and websites like Snapchat, Canva, Duolingo, Ring Doorbell have also reported problems, according to Down Detector.

"We are actively engaged and working to both mitigate the issue and understand root cause. We will provide an update in 45 minutes, or sooner if we have additional information to share," Amazon said on the page.

In another update, Amazon said they can confirm "significant error rates for requests made to the DynamoDB endpoint in the US-EAST-1 Region."

"This issue also affects other AWS Services in the US-EAST-1 Region as well," the company noted. Amazon said that customers may be unable to create or update support cases during the issues and said engineers were "immediately engaged."

People are reacting to their favourite gaming websites being down online, as one user replied to Roblox, "This is a outrageous I want to play steal a feet."

"I hope AWS apologizes for this," another wrote.

"My Fortnite went down while i was playing w my crush. I will never forgive you for this @EpicGames," said another user on X.

While Roblox and Fortnite have both released statements on the issue, saying they are working to fix the problem, Amazon Web Services have issued an update.

They say that a "potential root cause" of the issue is "with DNS resolution".

AWS representatives said: "We have identified a potential root cause for error rates for the DynamoDB APIs in the US-EAST-1 Region. Based on our investigation, the issue appears to be related to DNS resolution of the DynamoDB API endpoint in US-EAST-1.

"We are working on multiple parallel paths to accelerate recovery. This issue also affects other AWS Services in the US-EAST-1 Region. Global services or features that rely on US-EAST-1 endpoints such as IAM updates and DynamoDB Global tables may also be experiencing issues.

"During this time, customers may be unable to create or update Support Cases. We recommend customers continue to retry any failed requests. We will continue to provide updates as we have more information to share, or by 2:45 AM PDT (10.45am BST)."There is no indication of how long the outage will be an issue for.

Meanwhile, customers are having cards declined and are unable to access banking apps, messenger apps, and other popular websites used every day.
