Strictly Come Dancing’s Kai Widdrington heartbreak with emotional statement
Strictly Come Dancing professional Kai Widdrington paid tribute to a superfan who has sadly passed away
Strictly Come Dancing professional Kai Widdrington shared his grief in a heartfelt tribute to a devoted fan who died.
The dancer had honoured Brenda - described as an extraordinary woman - as part of BBC's The One Show's Big Thank You feature.
Posting on social media, he uploaded a photograph showing himself giving Brenda an affectionate kiss on the cheek and penned: "I was so sad to hear that the star of our One Show Big Thank You, Brenda, has passed away."
He added: "She was an amazing woman and it was genuinely an honour to meet her. My sincere condolences to her family - Brenda - thanks for all you did for everyone - your legacy will live on, rest well."
Just six days earlier, Kai had surprised Brenda, a passionate campaigner for cancer research funding, with a cake and a special celebration in her honour during The One Show's scheme, which highlights individuals who make outstanding contributions to helping others.
Brenda, who had thrown herself into charity work following her own battle with the disease, was recognised by Kai in a touching video he posted, according to the Express.
Looking back on their encounter during this tribute, Kai said: "This week's #OneBigThankYou goes to Brenda, who despite facing her own cancer journey, has dedicated her life to helping other people in a similar situation."
Showing tremendous appreciation for the opportunity to meet Brenda, Kai was touched by her unwavering dedication to fundraising for cancer research, documenting and sharing glimpses of their meeting, observing, "What an incredible privilege it was to meet the amazing Brenda!".
"Her dedication to raising funds for cancer research is truly inspiring. A heartfelt thank you to Brenda, her family and friends for all that you do and for allowing me to be part of your special day. Also, a big shout out to The One Show for the wonderful opportunity and for making the One Big Thank You. Together, we can make a difference!".
