Woman dies weeks after car collides with pedestrians

South Wales Police said Shelley Davies, 38, has died after an incident in Caerau, Cardiff, which saw several people hurt

A woman has died weeks after a car collided with pedestrians outside a club in the Caerau area of Cardiff, South Wales Police has confimed. The force said Shelley Davies, suffered injuries in the incident that happened just before 12.30am on Saturday, September 27.

Police said the 38-year-old died at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff on Saturday (October 18). They said a man has since been charged with her murder.

Police said they were called to Heol Trelai to a report that the driver of a car had collided with several pedestrians.

A large cordon was put in place stretching from Caerau Lane to Church Road for much of the day while crime scene investigators carried out their work accompanied by a large police presence.

Pictures showed investigators taking pictures of the scene in the road near a grass verge in the middle of the carriageway outside the 4th Glamorgan Homeguard Club.

South Wales Police said in a statement: "South Wales Police can confirm a 38-year-old woman injured in a collision in Caerau, Cardiff, last month has died and a man has been charged with her murder.

"Shelley Davies, 38, from Caerau, was injured during the incident and died at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, yesterday (Saturday, October 18)

"Following the collision, an 18-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

"He was on bail pending further enquiries.

"Kian Bateman, of Caerau, Cardiff, has now been re-arrested and charged with the murder of Shelley Davies."

They said the suspect has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on Monday, October 20, also charged with causing grievous bodily harm in relation to a second victim.

Detective Inspector Mike Healy from South Wales Police said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Shelley Davies as they come to terms with this tragic loss.

“Shelley’s family continue to be updated and supported by officers.”
