Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Improves reliability of GEMM workloads on newer GPUs (SM90) by adding group-level synchronization to address rare synchronization-related failures under heavy mixed-input operations.
  • Performance
    • Smoother and more consistent throughput for mixed-input GEMM workloads, with reduced variance in execution times.

GitHub Bot Help

/bot [-h] ['run', 'kill', 'skip', 'reuse-pipeline'] ...

Provide a user friendly way for developers to interact with a Jenkins server.

Run /bot [-h|--help] to print this help message.

See details below for each supported subcommand.

run [--reuse-test (optional)pipeline-id --disable-fail-fast --skip-test --stage-list "A10-PyTorch-1, xxx" --gpu-type "A30, H100_PCIe" --test-backend "pytorch, cpp" --add-multi-gpu-test --only-multi-gpu-test --disable-multi-gpu-test --post-merge --extra-stage "H100_PCIe-TensorRT-Post-Merge-1, xxx" --detailed-log --debug(experimental)]

Launch build/test pipelines. All previously running jobs will be killed.

--reuse-test (optional)pipeline-id (OPTIONAL) : Allow the new pipeline to reuse build artifacts and skip successful test stages from a specified pipeline or the last pipeline if no pipeline-id is indicated. If the Git commit ID has changed, this option will be always ignored. The DEFAULT behavior of the bot is to reuse build artifacts and successful test results from the last pipeline.

--disable-reuse-test (OPTIONAL) : Explicitly prevent the pipeline from reusing build artifacts and skipping successful test stages from a previous pipeline. Ensure that all builds and tests are run regardless of previous successes.

--disable-fail-fast (OPTIONAL) : Disable fail fast on build/tests/infra failures.

--skip-test (OPTIONAL) : Skip all test stages, but still run build stages, package stages and sanity check stages. Note: Does NOT update GitHub check status.

--stage-list "A10-PyTorch-1, xxx" (OPTIONAL) : Only run the specified test stages. Examples: "A10-PyTorch-1, xxx". Note: Does NOT update GitHub check status.

--gpu-type "A30, H100_PCIe" (OPTIONAL) : Only run the test stages on the specified GPU types. Examples: "A30, H100_PCIe". Note: Does NOT update GitHub check status.

--test-backend "pytorch, cpp" (OPTIONAL) : Skip test stages which don't match the specified backends. Only support [pytorch, cpp, tensorrt, triton]. Examples: "pytorch, cpp" (does not run test stages with tensorrt or triton backend). Note: Does NOT update GitHub pipeline status.

--only-multi-gpu-test (OPTIONAL) : Only run the multi-GPU tests. Note: Does NOT update GitHub check status.

--disable-multi-gpu-test (OPTIONAL) : Disable the multi-GPU tests. Note: Does NOT update GitHub check status.

--add-multi-gpu-test (OPTIONAL) : Force run the multi-GPU tests in addition to running L0 pre-merge pipeline.

--post-merge (OPTIONAL) : Run the L0 post-merge pipeline instead of the ordinary L0 pre-merge pipeline.

--extra-stage "H100_PCIe-TensorRT-Post-Merge-1, xxx" (OPTIONAL) : Run the ordinary L0 pre-merge pipeline and specified test stages. Examples: --extra-stage "H100_PCIe-TensorRT-Post-Merge-1, xxx".

--detailed-log (OPTIONAL) : Enable flushing out all logs to the Jenkins console. This will significantly increase the log volume and may slow down the job.

--debug (OPTIONAL) : Experimental feature. Enable access to the CI container for debugging purpose. Note: Specify exactly one stage in the stage-list parameter to access the appropriate container environment. Note: Does NOT update GitHub check status.

For guidance on mapping tests to stage names, see docs/source/reference/ci-overview.md
and the scripts/test_to_stage_mapping.py helper.

kill

kill

Kill all running builds associated with pull request.

skip

skip --comment COMMENT

Skip testing for latest commit on pull request. --comment "Reason for skipping build/test" is required. IMPORTANT NOTE: This is dangerous since lack of user care and validation can cause top of tree to break.

reuse-pipeline

reuse-pipeline

Reuse a previous pipeline to validate current commit. This action will also kill all currently running builds associated with the pull request. IMPORTANT NOTE: This is dangerous since lack of user care and validation can cause top of tree to break.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

Adds a warp-elected group synchronization at the start of tensormaps_cp_fence_release: one elected thread calls cute::tma_desc_commit_group() and cute::tma_desc_wait_group() before existing per-tensor cp_fence_release calls (A, B, and any conditional releases). No public signatures changed.

cpp/tensorrt_llm/cutlass_extensions/include/cutlass_extensions/gemm/collective/sm90_mma_array_tma_gmma_rs_warpspecialized_mixed_input_.hpp
Added warp-elected group commit and wait for TMA descriptors via cute::tma_desc_commit_group() and cute::tma_desc_wait_group() (invoked by the thread chosen via cute::elect_one_sync()), executed before existing per-tensor cp_fence_release calls for tensormaps A/B; per-tensor release logic unchanged.

1527-1531: Clarify single-lane commit/wait semantics and consider a warp sync for ordering (minor)

Two small asks:

  • Please confirm the required execution granularity for cute::tma_desc_commit_group() / cute::tma_desc_wait_group(). If they must be warp-aligned, the elect-one guard would be unsafe; if they are single-lane (or CTA-uniform) ops, this is correct. A brief comment here would prevent future regressions.
  • Optional: add a __syncwarp() just before the commit/wait to guarantee shared-memory descriptor updates performed earlier by the elected lane are visible even if a different lane gets elected here in the future.

Suggested tweak:

     CUTLASS_DEVICE void tensormaps_cp_fence_release(
         TensorMapStorage& shared_tensormaps, cute::tuple<TMs...> const& input_tensormaps)
     {
-        if (cute::elect_one_sync())
+ // Ensure any prior SMEM descriptor updates (replace_addr/dims/strides) are visible before committing.
+ // Note: tma_desc_commit_group()/wait_group() are intended to be invoked by a single elected lane.
+        __syncwarp();
+        if (cute::elect_one_sync())
         {
             cute::tma_desc_commit_group();
             cute::tma_desc_wait_group();
         }

Learning: In cpp/tensorrt_llm/batch_manager/dataTransceiverImpl.cpp, the existing `mMtxForMap` mutex in DataSenderImpl is sufficient to synchronize measurement file operations in the `release` method, as all file operations occur within the same critical section that protects the `mRequestToSession` map access.

1527-1531: LGTM: Warp-elected commit/wait before cp_fence_release is a sensible fix

Adding a single-lane commit/wait group prior to the warp-aligned cp_fence_release calls makes sense and aligns with reducing redundant descriptor synchronization. This is likely the missing step that caused the W4A8 MoE TMA visibility issue.

Thank you for your contribution. :D
This bug has been resolved in CUTLASS since Release v4.0.0 (NVIDIA/cutlass#2294).
However, the file used in TRTLLM is based on an older version of CUTLASS. We did not keep a close eye on the updates of CUTLASS.
