The trans community is incredibly diverse. Some trans people identify as trans men or trans women, while others may describe themselves as non-binary, genderqueer, gender non-conforming, agender, bigender or other identities that reflect their personal experience. Some take hormones or have surgery, while others may change their pronouns or appearance, according to HRC.
We use "trans" as an umbrella term to describe people whose current gender identity or way of expressing their gender differs from the sex they were registered with at birth. Some, but not all, trans people want to transition (change) socially or medically or both, the NHS reports.
Celebrities whose gender identity differs from their birth sex include Eddie Izzard, Sam Smith and Cara Delevingne.
