Xbox hikes prices globally with the Series X console now more expensive than a PS5
The Xbox family of console is dishing out price hikes across the world for its consoles, accessories and games, and it's going to make getting into the Xbox world exponentially harder.
Microsoft has revealed a number of price hikes affecting the Xbox family of consoles, accessories, and games, making gaming significantly more expensive across major regions.
Gaming prices are a hot topic at the moment for… obvious reasons. It’s a curious time to be a gamer as tariffs threaten to encroach on the profits of most of the major gaming companies (and we know how much they love those), and after the Nintendo Switch 2 price reveal in the wake of its huge Switch 2 Direct showcase, it seemed that players recoiled at the price of a console once again. We simply can’t win when it comes to this industry, as it seems that the cost of our favourite hobby is spiralling out of control, and it’s set to get even worse.
A recent PS5 price hike struck players looking to get stuck into this generation of gaming, and it prompted the question from fans of gaming at large - what exactly is happening in camp Xbox, and what are they going to unleash upon consumers? Sadly, it looks like we finally have the answer, and it’s not going to make you feel much better, though it might give Sony the illusion of the upper hand.
Xbox raises prices
In a shocking announcement, a new post on the Xbox Support website revealed that the price of Xbox consoles, accessories, and games will all be raised in one brutal sweep across the world. It’s a brutal change in prices, and one that puts the price of the base Xbox Series X over the price of the PS5 in the United States and the United Kingdom.
Consoles, controllers, headsets, and first-party games worldwide will all be affected, with the United States bearing the brunt of the cost changes. The cost of an Xbox Series S 512GB will rise to $379.99 from $299.99, and the cost of an Xbox Series X will be $599.99, up a huge $100 from $499.99. You can buy a PS5 Disc console for $100 less than that.
Another significant change is the cost of first-party games, with the company clearly taking inspiration from Mario Kart World’s pricing to crank “some of our new, first-party games starting this holiday season to $79.99.” There is no word yet on how the price of these games will be affected across the world yet, but we’ll have to wait and see what Xbox deems to be a game worthy of such a cost.
