The latest Xbox hardware and software news, updates, and reviews

Microsoft first stepped into the console market with the Xbox in November 2001 which launched with Halo: Combat Evolved. The series has been a stalwart in Xbox's stable of console exclusives, spanning the Xbox 360, Xbox One, and more recently the Xbox Series X|S.

One of the company's main points of focus in recent years has been on its digital offerings, with its Netflix-style library of on-demand games as part of its Xbox Game Pass subscription. The service was revamped in September 2023 with the introduction of Xbox Game Pass Core which replaced Xbox Live Gold, catering to players who only want to pay for access to online multiplayer.

Xbox dabbled with additional gaming tech in 2010 with the Kinect motion sensor for the Xbox 360 but didn't branch off in the same way Sony did with its range of peripherals, handhelds and VR headsets. Instead Xbox is working with hardware manufacturers to release branded devices it doesn't have to develop in-house including the upcoming ROG Xbox Ally handhelds, and limited edition Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition.

Xbox followed a similar strategy with its software; after getting criticism for cancelling numerous titles the company pivoted to buying big publishers like ZeniMax Media and Activision Blizzard, bringing Bethesda titles like The Elder Scrolls and Fallout in-house, alongside the likes of Call of Duty. However, not all of the IP it shelled out for have been made console exclusives, and we've seen timed exclusivity with others.
