Kate Middleton and Melania Trump's outfit secrets from 'clash' rule to belt mystery
The fashion on display at the state visit has captured a lot of attention, the Mirror takes a look at all the details you might have missed in Princess Kate and Melania Trump's sartorial offerings
All eyes have been on Donald and Melania Trump's state visit this week, and the couple have been treated to much royal pomp and pageantry.
It's the second time the First Couple have been invited to the UK for an official trip, marking a historic attempt to reinforce the relationship between the two countries.
It's no surprise that the fashion on display during the huge event has captured a lot of attention, with Princess Kate, a royal style icon, putting her best foot forward for British designers. Known for her striking sartorial choices, Melania's looks have also sparked a lot of debate with one outfit in particular going viral thanks to an 'optical illusion'.
From insider fashion rules to the special meaning behind Kate's sparkling accessories, the Mirror takes you through the most memorable fashion moments of the trip so far.
1 of 12 The showstopper so far has been the Princess of Wales' incredible look at last night's glitzy state banquet. The future Queen plumped for a Phillipa Lepley lace evening coat over a simple and timeless silk crepe gown.
The champagne gold lace creation featured intricate hand-embroidered rose motifs, delicately puffed sleeves, and flowed out from the waist, revealing the understated gown below.

Kate's regularly chosen the Lover's Knot for these kind of high-profile occasions, but rarely has just kept her hair flowing - so we saw a new side of her style here.
While Diana loved the piece, she did complain that it gave her headaches as it is so heavy.

She matched a Jane Taylor hat with the burgundy ensemble, and finished things off with a Chanel handbag, and a pair of sleek Gianvito Rossi 105 pumps.

While it would have been seen as acceptable to all wear neutrals, the royal women try not to go for the same bright shades at events like this one, Grant Harrold, King Charles' ex royal butler revealed.

She pulled everything together with her Maud Pearls Clutch handbag, by Anya Hindmarch - a handbag by this designer was given to the First Lady as a gift during the visit in a subtle nod to sartorial diplomacy.

(Image:PA)11 of 12 Meanwhile, Melania's striking belt at the lavish dinner caused some confusion online, reminiscent of the blue or gold dress debacle from a few years back that caused uproar as people could not agree on what colour they were looking at.
In some photos, her belt looked pink, and in others, light purple. The look became something of an optical illusion as people tried to figure it out. You'll be pleased to hear her team has confirmed it as a "Easter purple", finally solving the mystery..
