Donald Trump state visit in pictures as President meets royals at Windsor Castle
President Donald Trump arrived at Windsor Castle as King Charles III's guest for the start of a state visit full of pomp and pageantry - before a day of politics followed at Chequers
President Donald Trump was greeted by military honour guards and mounted troops as he arrived at Windsor Castle yesterday afternoon in a lavish start to his second state visit.
He and wife Melania Trump were invited to the castle as guests of King Charles III, who was there to greet him along with Prince William and his wifem Princess Kate. The prince and princess met the Trumps as they disembarked from Marine One when it landed on the Windsor estate, before he was introduced to the King and Queen.
This was followed by a procession of horse-drawn carriages as military bands blared out the US and British national anthems. On arrival at the castle quadrangle, Trump and Charles inspected an honour guard of British troops.
To appease the grandeur-loving president, the UK pulled out all the stops, deploying 1,300 troops and 120 horses for the spectacle. The display also included the largest guard of honour in living memory.
After a dazzling state banquet on Wednesday night, the second day of the state visit today saw the US president and Prime Minister Keir Starmer enter into high-level talks at Chequers, before holding a press conference in front of the cameras this afternoon.
