Gyles Brandreth has shared an update about how King Charles is doing in light of the 'depressing' claims about Prince Andrew. The broadcaster, 77, was back on ITV's This Morning on Monday where he joined Camilla Tominey and hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard for a chat about the royal news that is dominating the headlines.

Andrew gave up his titles in disgrace following a "close consultation" with the King and his son, Prince William. Andrew made the announcement on Friday where he also shared he would give up the Order of the Garter title.

It comes after it was reported that Andrew had emailed the late Epstein in 2011, despite having claimed in his infamous Newsnight interview that he cut off contact with him in 2010. Meanwhile, in the late Virgin Giuffre's new book, she claims that she was allegedly sent to have sex with Prince Andrew for a fourth time - however, the royal denies all sex crime allegations against him.

Gyles is known for his friendship with the royal family and instantly set about discussing why the Duke of York should not necessarily be stripped of his titles

This Morning's Gyles is known for his friendship with the royal family and instantly set about discussing why the Duke of York should not necessarily be stripped of his titles. He added that it comes at a time that the King is doing something as 'important' as going to the Vatican to meet with the head of the Catholic church.

He said: "This really means something to the King. He cares about it. He prays, it's a very special moment and he's all about bringing people together.

"To have these distracting headline when he's trying to do something for human relations, international relations, faith relations, is depressing for him.

"I think taking titles away is irrelevant. Andrew is the son of our late Queen, and he will always be that."

He added that the palace "really can't do anymore" as the story evolves. "The problem is, it won't go away," he said.

"I think taking away titles, moving people from one address to another, is irrelevant. Andrew is the son our of late queen, our longest-reigning monarch, he will always be that.

"You cannot take that away from him. He may be called Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor in future, I don't know.

"But he will still be somebody people know about. They will go on following this story until they've got every bit of juice out of it, and the palace really can't do any more, I don't think."

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV1 and ITVX.
