Netflix drops 'disturbing' trailer for hotly anticipated drama with unrecognisable Sons of Anarchy star

Netflix fans are raving about the “terrifying” trailer for the return of an anthology drama just minutes after its release

Netflix has given fans a taste of what’s to come in the third season of a “disturbing” drama which welcomes a Sons of Anarchy icon.

American Horror Story mastermind Ryan Murphy is back at it again as he returns to his latest horror anthology drama Monster for a third season.

The stand-out franchise delves into the horrific cases of some of the world ’s most infamous killers with series one focussing on Jeffrey Dahmer and the second outing on brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez.

Now Monster is back and its third season is entitled The Ed Gein Story, with the titular 1950s serial killer known for inspiring key moments in classic horror films like Psycho and The Silence of the Lambs.

Netflix teases: “Serial killer. Grave robber. Psycho.

“In the frozen fields of 1950s rural Wisconsin, a friendly, mild-mannered recluse named Eddie Gein lived quietly on a decaying farm — hiding a house of horrors so gruesome it would redefine the American nightmare.

“Driven by isolation, psychosis, and an all-consuming obsession with his mother, Gein’s perverse crimes birthed a new kind of monster that would haunt Hollywood for decades.”

The horrifying trailer begins with a woman stating: “There’s something real dark about you Eddie Gein.”

Set to the music of Pet Shop Boys’ It’s A Sin, the teaser grows more intense as he is later seen dressed up as his dead mum and wearing her skin.

As he holds up his victims’ skin, Ed says: “I just feel like I’m a puzzle and none of the pieces fit.”

The trailer then ends with Ed once again dancing covered in other people’s skin after creepily telling someone: “You’re the one who can’t look away.”

Starring as the serial killer himself is none other than actor Charlie Hunnam who is best known for portraying Jax Teller in the hit FX drama Sons of Anarchy.

He is joined by Big Bang Theory’s Laurie Metcalf, The Night Manager actor Tom Hollander and The Crown’s Lesley Manville.

Netflix subscribers have since taken to YouTube to share not only their excitement but also their praise for Hunnam’s transformation into Ed Gein.

Someone wrote: “Charlie is going to do a phenomenal portrayal of Ed Gein. Such a Good Actor in everything he is in.”

Another said: “How does Ryan Murphy sleep after creating all these horrid and disturbing images? Dude's a genuinely talented filmmaker.”

A third posted: “The makeup department deserves a raise ASAP”, as a fellow fan commented: “I didn't even recognize Charlie at first.”

A user remarked: “This is gonna be the best Monster series so far”, while someone else exclaimed: “This trailer scared the s**t out of me!

“I can't imagine how terrifying this season is going to be...and I'm here for it!”
