Trigger Point season 3 to explore 'addiction' as Lana battles PTSD
Vicky McClure is back as Lana Washington in the third series of Trigger Point, which will see the bomb disposal expert battle with her past as she tries to protect the city.
Three years ago, ITV audiences were captivated by Vicky McClure's thrilling drama series Trigger Point.
The programme follows Lana Washington, portrayed by Vicky, alongside her explosive ordnance disposal squad.
Since hitting screens, Trigger Point has soared in popularity, with the second series becoming ITV1's most-watched drama last year.
It averaged 8.1million viewers and clocked up 30 million streams on ITVX.
This month, Lana and her colleagues return once more to risk their lives protecting the city from danger, as there's set to be explosive scenes ahead.
From October 26, audiences will enjoy six fresh episodes of the edge-of-your-seat programme as the squad encounters someone seeking vengeance with a dark grudge, hunting down specific targets.
With ITV offering fans a peek at what lies ahead in an exciting preview trailer, Lana springs back into action, though it appears her history is finally catching up with her.
Before the new series launches, actress Vicky McClure chatted to Reachplc, revealing that Lana is battling to manage in the forthcoming episodes, reports the Express.
When questioned whether everything she's endured throughout earlier seasons will finally catch up with her, the actress responded: "Yeah, I think when we first started talking about series three, we were all very aware that we wanted to touch on PTSD for sure, how that was for Lana.
"It's so unique to everybody, so trying to capture what it meant to Lana, and we all know that she's lost a lot of people close to her throughout the series so far, there's no way that that's not going to have an effect on her."
Vicky revealed that whilst the programme can sometimes stretch beyond realistic boundaries, she was determined to make Lana's emotional storyline as authentic as possible.
She continued: "We'll see Lana going through an addiction, while she's working and how she handles that and who is picking up on it.
"The reality of how you self-medicate, I guess. She makes a lot of mistakes, that's the downfall of being the heroic character.
"You think you can do it all, and you think you're fully capable, and you think you're in control, and she's not all the time.
"We've learnt that before, but I think these last couple of series, it's been nice because Lana is having to lean more on other people."
Nevertheless, fans can anticipate thrilling episodes ahead as the star hinted that some brilliant fresh faces are joining the programme this series.
She continued: "I think you're going to really enjoy their performances. The team is back, we're more connected than ever, the explosive moments are coming thick and fast. You'll see me running a lot, which is rare.
"I just know that people are going to go, 'wow'. I mean, even from the trailer that we've put out. I'm really happy to brag about it, which is a rarity."
The third season of Trigger Point is set to premiere on Sunday, 26th October 2025 at 9pm on ITV1 and STV, with the entire series available for streaming on ITVX and STV Player.
