Fact Sheet May 2015

As of May 1, 332 restrictions on abortion have been introduced in 43 states. Over 50 of these restrictions have been made into law. In May, a 33-year-old woman in Indiana, Purvi Patel, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for felony “child neglect” and “feticide” for allegedly self-inducing an abortion. Kansas & Oklahoma passed bans on the safest and most common method for performing abortion after the first trimester of pregnancy. This goes into effect in July in KS and in November in OK. Arizona & Arkansas joined 22 other states in requiring doctors to read a script of junk science to woman seeking abortions (called “counseling”) — for example, warning them about “post abortion syndrome,” a condition that has never been proven to exist. Indiana enacted — and 16 other states introduced — a state version of the federal ”Religious Freedom Restoration Act.” This law legalizes open bigotry. The federal version was the basis for the Hobby Lobby decision in 2014, allowing refusal of contraception coverage. 43 states allow medical institutions to refuse to provide abortions. Tennessee passed the same bogus law that forced dozens of abortion clinics in Texas to close in 2014. On July 1st when it goes into effect, this law could close half of TN’s abortion clinics, leaving it with four. “Abortion deserts” are spreading rapidly across the nation. Between Montana and North Dakota, and in areas in the south, over 600 miles exist between abortion clinics. www.StopPatriarchy.org

Abortion rights are in a state of unprecedented emergency!
It is urgent that everyone act now to stop this war on women. Forcing women to have children
against their will is a form of enslavement.

RIGHT NOW...
The right to abortion a simple, safe, and responsible choice is being eradicated, lied about,
and stigmatized.

IN 2015

As of May 1, 332 restrictions on abortion have been introduced in 43 states. Over 50 of these

restrictions have been made into law.

2011-2013

THE ATTACKS ON ABORTION HAVE NEVER BEEN ABOUT BABIES

THEY'VE ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT CONTROLLING WOMEN.

The anti-abortion movement will not stop until all abortions are criminalized in all circumstances for all
women. No exceptions for rape, incest, the life/health of the woman. No respect for women's right not to
be forced to have a child against her will. These fascists cannot be reasoned with. They must be STOPPED!

AND WHAT DO THE DEMOCRATS SAY?!

Hillary Clinton: I for one, respect those who believe that there are no circumstances under which
any abortions should ever be available.

Wisconsin and Texas were

attacked with explosives in
2011-2012.

In 2013: An abortion clinic

inIndiana was vandalized
with anaxe. A man
attempted twice to burn
down a Planned Parenthood
in Missouri. Another man
was convicted of planning to
assassinate an abortion
doctor in Wisconsin.

2014

...and Obama has repeatedly said he supports restrictions on abortion and respects the views of and seeks
common ground with those who will not be satisfied until all abortions are illegal.

THIS IS WRONG.
For far too long, pro-choice people have remained passive, or funneled their energies into supporting
politicians who open promise to seek common ground with Christian fascists. But seeking common
ground has really meant ceding ground to this whole onslaught. For decades we have watched
yesterday's outrage become today's compromise position and tomorrow's limit of what can be
imagined. There can be no common ground with female enslavement. What is required instead is:
massive, uncompromising, political resistance to STOP this whole WAR ON WOMEN, and go
on to WIN the fight for liberation.

The future is up to us!

Over thirty abortion clinics

in Texas were forced to close
as a result of a combination
of medically unnecessary
restrictions passed in 2013.
The Supreme Court ruled in
favor of Hobby Lobby:
employers can claim
religious freedom and deny
employees insurance
coverage for birth control.

This whole direction must uncompromisingly resisted and defeated! We must:

Change the terms by telling the truth: Fetuses are NOT babies. Abortion is NOT murder. Women are NOT
incubators. Women need Abortion On Demand and Without Apology!
Go out into the streets and wage massive, public, uncompromising, political resistance on a national scale.
We must rely on ourselves and mobilize the outrage of others to STOP THIS WAR ON WOMEN.
