MA1104 Tutorial 2 (Week 4) : 1 2 1 X 1 3 Y+2 2 z+1 4 2 x+2 2 y 4 4

This document contains 10 problems related to lines, planes, and their intersections in 3D space. The problems involve finding parametric equations of lines, determining if lines intersect, finding points of intersection, finding equations of planes, finding distances, and verifying perpendicularity. Key steps include setting up and solving systems of equations involving direction ratios and using properties of lines and planes such as orthogonality and parallelism.

MA1104 Tutorial 2 (Week 4)

1. Find a set of parametric equations of the line which passes through the
point (2, 3, 4) and is perpendicular to the plane given by 3x + 2y z = 6.
2. Determine whether the lines are intersecting or skew. If they intersect,
find the point of intersection.
(a) L1 : x = 4t + 2, y = 3, z = t + 1
L2 : x = 2s + 2, y = 2s + 3, z = s + 1

3. Find an equation of the plane that passes through the points (2, 2, 1) and
(1, 1, 1) and is perpendicular to the plane 2x 3y + z = 3.
4. Find the point on the plane x + y + z = 1 which is closest to the point
Q(2, 1, 2).
5. Find a set of parametric equations for the line of intersection of the planes:
2x 3y + 4z = 3, x + 4y 2z = 7.
6. Find an equation of the plane that is orthogonal to the plane 3x+2y4z =
7 and contains the line of intersection of the planes 2x 3y + z = 3 and
x + 2y 3z = 5.
7. Show that the curve of intersection of the surfaces 2x2 + y 2 3z 2 + 2y = 6
and 4x2 + 2y 2 6z 2 4x = 4 lies in a plane.
8. Find the distance from the point (1, 2, 4) to the plane 3x + 2y + 6z = 5.
9. Find the distance between the given parallel planes.
2x 3y + z = 4
4x 6y + 2z = 3.

10. Find the point P (x, y, z) on the line

x = 3+t
y = 2+t
