Article Master LSMW Generic/Variants - ARTMAS05
This subject raised a f ew questions in an
SCN thread with the title of
Error while try ing to create Generic
Articles with v ariants using LSMW (ARTMAS05).
A document that I wrote in response to that question is requested f requently. This post replaces the document
named md_article_generic_lsmw.pdf
Creating a generic article master with v ariant articles is accomplished v ia processing of one ARTMAS05 IDoc.
There is important prerequisite master data, which is detailed in steps below that were executed to create an
example.

Hello Paul,
Thank y ou f or y our inf ormation.
I cannot create generic/v ariants with idoc ARTMAS because i use transaction WRFCHVAL to
def ine characteristic v alues of my characteristic.
Same steps as y our but :
- when I create my characteristic I indicate f unction module "WRF_CHECK_CHAR_VAL" in v alue
tab.
- Then, I indicate characteristic v alues in transaction WRFCHVAL instead of CT04.
When I try to create materials with this characteristic through doc I alway s hav e the same

For inf ormation, when I create a material through transaction MM41 with this characteristic,
ev ery thing is OK.

Hello Romain:
You are using New Characteristic Value Storage. I hav e not tested that case, but I don't
believ e that the ARTMAS should be populated any dif f erently.
Take a look at y our f ailed IDoc, pay ing attention to:

Hello Paul and Romain,
I am also f acing the issue. Used new char v alue storage.
Getting message ,, No Characteristics could be determined f or generic material.
Idoc processed successf ully. Error comes while opening Generic article in
MM43.

Hello Paul
I f ollowed y our manual and it works perf ectly. But I hav e an issue.
When I enter to MM42/MM43 with my generic article I can see that my v ariants
are created BUT their characteriscs are not "checked" when I click on "Values".
I don't know if this is the normal behav ior because y o do not mentioned this
any where.
If it is not normal, can y ou please help me? I need the relev ant characteristics
of my v ariants as checked.

Hello Paul,
I hav e a requirement of creation of similar article master by LSMW+IDOC method f or Single,
Generic and Variant articles.
To start with, I hav e started creating a single article and I hav e f illed all the f ields but getting an
error 'No entry in key f ield of table MARM'.
I hav en't maintained data in AUSP segment since this is single article.
Need help on this.
