HIRING... Don't worry you've come to the right place, I've put this
guide together to help you. Being in the industry for over
a decade Ive seen a lot of tools come and go but here is a
list of my favourites that I use day to day.

WHY DO
I CARE?
I understand the struggle.
My first job was at Wired Uk and I was given the exciting
title of digital magazine designer. The only problem was
no-one had ever designed a digital magazine before.
Working closely with Adobe we hacked together the
world's first monthly digital magazine in an Alpha
version of a tool called the Digital Publishing Suite.
Every interaction took hours to build and then when
tested through a tool with the ominous title
of The Bundler my whole system would crash!
Luckily times have changed and things that took hours
then now take seconds. I'm excited to show you the best
tools to save you time and create amazing designs.

Really good for collaboration and feedback
Axure RP should be the first tool you learn when starting
out in UX. It's been around for the longest time and used in
most large companies. It's the go-to tool for creating
interactive wireframes and the adaptive views feature is
good for testing your design at multiple screen sizes.

When talking about design tools it's impossible to leave
Adobe out of the conversation. They are
the major player in this space and XD is there latest
offering designed at both UX and UI designers. At the
time of writing XD is still in Beta so it's Free to
download and is available for both Mac and PC. XD is
simplicity at its finest and is amazingly fast. You can
reuse elements of your design quickly and easily thanks
to the symbols feature. With Adobe consistently
improving their software this could be a game changer.
SKETCH

Can be used by both UX and UI designers
The 3rd competitor in this race is Sketch. Over the last few
years Sketch seems to have eaten into the dominance of
Axure RP. What I like about Sketch is that it's just as easy to
make wireframes as it is to make UI designs. Each layout is
on a 'canvas' so creating designs for different screen sizes
is easy. Sketch comes with pre programmed sizes of all the
latest phones and tablets and is geared towards mobile
designs. Sketch is a great all rounder and for value-for-
money at $99 it cant be beat.

Let's start with my personal favourite prototyping tool
Invision. It's built for speed and uploading your own
design files couldn't be easier. Adding interactivity and
animation is all relatively simple and the transitions
look great. There are really good communication
features built into the software meaning you can give
and receive feedback directly in the prototype.
UXPIN
Collaborative design and prototyping
Cloud based with amazing collaboration features
Customize any element by styling with CSS code
Iterate from lo-fi to hi-fi without any other tool
UXPIN is a complete end-to-end design system built for
UX teams. The collaboration features and cloud based
software means that projects can move faster and be
better organised. The prototyping tools are first class
and the ability to share easily makes UXPIN a great tool
if you are part of a UX team. Being used at top
companies including PayPal and high end agencies such
as Sapient Nitro UXPIN is taking the industry by storm.
PROTO.IO
Prototypes that feel real
A great tool for hi fidelity prototypes
Brilliant motion and animations
Can capture data thats been input
Proto.io is a pretty amazing prototyping tool, if your
looking for something a bit more complex. It's being
used by a lot of the top companies for producing very
realistic looking prototypes. It's not top spot on my list
because it's got quite a steep learning curve compared to
other tools I have used. If you want to dig a little
deeper into complex interactions then check this out.

Usability testing is a way to see how easy to use something is by testing it with real users. Users are asked to
complete tasks, typically while they are being observed by a researcher, to see where they encounter
problems and experience confusion.

really important test because being able to find content
is the most important factor of success in any website.
