SETTING OUT

Types of working involved, purpose, working procedures, use of


instruments, calculation and setting out for pipe line, drain and
trench.
INTRODUCTION
 Setting-out is the reverse process, where the position and
levels of new works already recorded on a working plan are
transferred to the ground.
PURPOSE AND FIELD WORK
 The controlled process of setting out covers three aspects of positioning new
works.

 Horizontal Control, in which the true relative positions of


points are fixed on the horizontal plane and marked by pegs
in the ground.
 Vertical Control, in which pegs defining different levels of
construction are suitably placed.
 Works Control, in which the construction processes are
controlled, e.g. the vertical alignment of buildings during
construction and the control of embankment slopes and
excavations.

TYPES OF LINES AND REFERENCES
For the purpose of the setting, the position of
a building referred to a few lines or a
reference in the plan.
 Base lines
 Line in the plan where it outlines the subsidiary set / consulted
i. the center line of the road, pipes or sewers
ii. line the walls of the building which is a row of existing buildings
 Subsidiary line
 The second line is set / referred to the baseline
 Referred Point
 stable reference control is made as to face the case of loss or damage to picket or construction
point that has been planted
