Welding Symbols Is An Additional Added Feature Then Other Software

The document discusses and compares several CAD and CAM software options. AutoCAD is introduced as easy to learn but not ideal for complex 3D designs. SolidWorks allows import/export to other software and includes welding symbols but has limited drafting. TinkerCAD is free and good for beginners but can only create basic objects. Creo/ProE automatically generates bills of materials and allows interference checking but has a confusing interface. Catia requires manual dimensioning and is expensive for small businesses. ANSYS Spaceclaim allows multi-body parts but has low tolerance and is still in development. DesignModeler easily makes simple changes but has a slow interface. For CAM software, NX from Siemens is high-end but expensive, while

Cad softwares :

1. AutoCAD :
Advantages –
a) It is easy to learn.
b) The interface is user friendly so it saves a lot of time.
c) It produces very accurate complex designs.
d) The errors in the drawing can be revoked easily.

Disadvantages –

a) It can not be used for complex 3D designs.

b) The files occupies a large space in case of 3D objects.
c) It is not easy to use as an entry level software.
d) Drawing and drafting is still at basic level.
e) It is an expensive software.

2. SolidWorks :
Advantages –
a) Direct import or export to other software like ANSYS can be done easily.
b) Welding symbols is an additional added feature then other software.
c) Easy to learn.

d) A proper estimation of Cost report and durability of the given product can be
obtained.
e) Complex motion analysis can be done in SolidWorks.

Disadvantages –

a) Drawing and Drafting is limited to only basic level.

b) Solidworks is only preferred for small businesses.

3. TinkerCAD:

Advantages :
a) It is a good introductory software.
b) It is available for free.

Disadvantage –

a) It can only be used to create some basic objects.

b) Does not support a variety of file formats.

4. PRO E/Creo CAD:

Advantages –
a) Image rendering in Creo is faster than other softwares.
b) It automatically creats a bill of material.
c) In Creo we can check whether two parts having relative motion interfere with each
other or not.
d) Mechanism working video model is available in Creo.
e) A lot of big industries prefer Creo.

Disadvatages –
a) Drawing details in Creo is difficult.
b) It is difficult to learn.
c) The interface of the software is confusing.

5. Catia:
Disadvantages –

a) You have to manually give dimension to each entity after it’s drawn.
b) It is mainly used in aerodynamic design industry.
c) You cannot import other types of models created in other softwares in it.
d) It is expensive to use for small scale industries.

6. ANSYS Spaceclaim:
Advantages-
a) Can form multi-body parts
b) Embedded within ANSYS
c) Easy to learn
d) Intelligent interface design for great user experience
e) Making direct modelling changes in Spaceclaim is easy

Disadvantages-
a) Low tolerance
b) It was released nearly a decade ago so it is still in development
c) Spaceclaim allows you to rotate about one axis at a time.

7. DesignModeler-
Advantages:
a) Making simple model changes is very easy
b) Can form multi-body parts to connect bodies together without using contact

Disadvantages:
a) Hard to learn
b) Slow interface
c) Going back and making changes to models in DesignModeler adds more
functions to the tree
CAM Softwares :

1. Siemen NX :
NX from Siemens is a high end CAD/CAE software. It was originally developed by Unigraphics
but has been taken over by Siemens.
2. MasterCAM
3. hyperMILL
4. Powermill
5. HSM works
