Q2. The electric field component of a time harmonic plane EM wave travelling in a nonmagnetic lossless
dielectric medium has amplitude of 1 V/m. If the relative permittivity of the medium is 4, Find the
magnitude of the time-average power density vector in W/m2.
Q3. The H field (in A/m) of a plane wave propagating in free space is given by
H = ax 5 cos(wt -βz) + ay cos(wt –βz + π/2) A/m.
Find the time average power flow density in Watt/m2.
Q4. The magnetic field intensity vector of a plane wave is given by
H(x,y,z,t) = 10 sin(50000t + 0.004x + 30) ay
where ay, denotes the unit vector in y direction. Find the direction of wave propagation and phase velocity.
Q5. The electric and magnetic fields for a TEM wave of frequency 14 GHz in a homogeneous medium of
relative permittivity εr and relative permeability μr =1 are given by
E = Ep uz V/m and H=3 ux A/m. Assuming the speed
of light in free space to be 3 ×108 m/s, the intrinsic impedance of free space to be 120π Ω, find the relative
permittivity εr of the medium and the electric field amplitude Ep.

Q1. Explain reflection of plane wave at the air dielectric interface for normal incidence.
Q2. A plane wave having the electric field components

the region y ≥ 0. Find the reflection coefficient and reflected magnetic field component.
Q3. A uniform plane wave in the free space is normally incident on an infinitely thick dielectric slab
(dielectric constant ε = 9). Find the magnitude of the reflection coefficient for both electric and magnetic
field.
Q4. A right circularly polarized (RCP) plane wave is incident at an angle 600 to the normal, on an air-
dielectric interface. If the reflected wave is linearly polarized, then find relative dielectric constant ξr2.

Q3.An interface at plane x=5 separates two dielectric with Є r 4 and 16. E.F. on one side with Є r =4 is

divergence of B is 0.
Q5.Determine the magnetic field H at the centre of a square current element. The length of each side is 5m
and the current I=10A.

conductor and back to other conductor. Derive an expression for force b/w the conductor and calculate the
same.
