This document provides instructions for updating the firmware on an Erbe-Verb pedal using an audio file. It explains that the update is not needed for pedals with a serial number of 4492 or higher. It details connecting an audio playback device to the pedal's input, setting levels, powering on while holding the reverse button, and playing the firmware file to load the update. It notes things to watch out for like discontinuous rises in pitch or LEDs lighting that indicate signal is too loud or quiet.

If your Erbe-Verb has serial number #4492 or higher, you do NOT need

this update.

This firmware can be loaded onto your Erbe-Verb using the attached
ev040.wav file. Here is the procedure:

- patch a mini cable from the output of an internet-enabled audio

playback device (such as a smartphone or computer) to the input of
the Erbe-Verb.
- turn the volume all the way up on the playback device. (make sure
that no other apps or programs will be making noise during
this bootload).
- set the input level on the erbe-verb to between 10- and 11-o’clock.
- set the MIX control on the erbe-verb to 100% wet.
- monitor the output of the erbe-verb.
- Power up the Erbe-Verb while holding down the reverse button - you
should hear a low, continuous tone.
- Play back the attached file into the erbe-verb. (see
attachment erbeverb040.wav)

- If you download the file, do not change the file format. Also, be
careful that other sounds (email/IM alerts, music, etc.) are silenced
during playback of the bootloader audio file.
- if it’s working well, the tone output by the EV will rise continually until
it reaches the end of file, followed by a bi-tone noise and reset. Now
it’s an ErbeVerb! You can verify this by turning the decay all the way
up and the absorb down… it’ll start to oscillate.

some things to note during bootloading:

- If the rise in pitch is discontinuous you’ll need stop the playback,
cycle power with the reverse button down, and start over.
- if the reverse LED lights, the signal is too loud, but don’t be bothered
if it flickers on occasion as long as the tone continues to rise.
- If the SPD LED lights the signal is too quiet. This is a problem. Turn up
the input level a little and start over.
- The bootloader is still there once the reverb is installed, so turning it
on with the button down will stop the unit from working until power is
cycled.
