PRINT MEDIA consists the use of paper
and ink, and reproduced in a printing
process that is traditionally mechanical.

TYPES BROADCAST MEDIA ,such as radio and

OF television, reaches target audiences using
airwaves as the transmission medium.
MEDIA

NEW MEDIA are organized and distributed

content on digital platforms.

16
MEDIA AND INFORMATION LITERACY
First Term – Module 1
Date of Submission: OCTOBER 19, 2020

From the given types of media below, it can easily be stated that:

Abante newspaper is a printed media because it uses

paper and ink for the knowledge to be disseminated,

24 Oras is a Broadcast Media because it needs airwaves

for the news to be disseminated, and

Cong TV vlog is a New Media because it is digital (video)

and needs internet for the content to be disseminated

However, the state of today’s media changes because of the rapid innovation of technology. There are
instances that a type of media merges to another type of media. For instance, the TV Patrol is initially
a Broadcast Media as it needs airwaves to be accessed. At the same, TV Patrol can also be accessed
through Facebook Live which needs internet in order to be accessed thus TV Patrol can also be a New
Media. TV Patrol therefore merges to a Broadcast Media and a New Media. This merging of media is
what we called Media Converges.

MEDIA CONVERGES

The co-existence of traditional and new media.

The co-existence of print media, broadcast media (radio and television), the
Internet, mobile phones, as well as others, allowing media content to flow
across various platforms.

The ability to transform different kinds of media into digital code, which is
then accessible by a range of devices thus creating a digital communication
environment.

Here are some examples of Media Converges in the Philippines:

Answer Statement
1. During the Tribal Age of Media, the primitive man’s knowledge largely depended on
his ability to communicate with the __________. (It means if your do not have a
tribe, you cannot access information.)
2. Since the Tribal Age of Media is largely spoken word, it is more __________. (This
means how you say a word largely affect the meaning of the information.)
3. During the Literacy Age of Media, __________was a technological breakthrough
because primitive man can now explore other lands without being cut off from the
flow of information. (This means with or without a tribe, you can get access to
information as long you can read and write.)
4. During the Print Age of Media, __________ became more available and that make
more people became naturally literate as independent thinkers spread their ideas
more. (In other words, if a person knows how to read, he learns more and he has the
ability to create information based on his learnings from reading books.)
5. During the Electronic Age of Media, the __________ such as telegraph, radio, films,
telephone, television and computer have greater influence on man because they do
not serve as extension of only one sense organ, as in this case of print, but of all the
senses. (This means information from television or radio uses both just sense of sight
[unlike in reading during Print Age], it uses sense of hearing which adds influence to
the people.)
6. Unlike during Print Age where independent thinkers spread their ideas more,
Electronic age brought back people to __________ Age wherein literate man was
aloof and disassociate himself from the world as he gained knowledge. (Thus, like tribal
age, people can gain information despite not being able to read or write since they
can depend on the other senses such as sense of hearing.)
7. During the Electronic Age, the __________ occurred Because of farther reach of
television, we became one tribe – a global village. (Through television, there is no need
