Good afternoon students,

Welcome back to school, even though we are not in a phsycial building we are still having classes. Now
we are the technological era where we are able to be given work and thee ability to turn in the
assessment at said due date or marked late automatically.

In our text books we have a few more chapters to go so we are going to be starting Data Communication
and the internet.

We wouldn’t be doing all of the chapter now but in parts, therefore students make sure to understand
what you read. You are making your own notes, and you would have a simple research question at the
end of each part of the chapter. You would have submit that said assessment at the first class of the
following week or unless I say otherwise.

Data Communication and the Internet

Data communication can be described as the transmission of information throught transmission


channels from one place to another. Transmission channels are different kinds of media or methods.
Most of the data transmission channels are telephone line, coaxial fibre-otpic cables, microwave links
and communication satellites.

Facsimile Machines are basically Fax machines, the only thing that is different is the name. They are sill
commonly used in business places and companies.

Pagers are small electronic devices that allows you to keep in touch with the world through an electronic
networ. They were mostly popular durring the 1980s and 1990s. Pagers are basically a text based
communication that sends the sender’s number or a text message.

Cellular phones are one of the most popular ICT innovations that keeps updating. As you know it comes
in all sizes, shapes and colours. They are able to communicate using text messages and calls. It uses the
internet which allows you to download apps and and use those apps to communicate with friends and
family, use to complete work given E.G google classroom, you are able to download and upload videos
and images. There is so much more you able to do using cell phones today.

Video conferencing is basically another way you can communciate with other. There are numerous
platforms that are available to allow Video conferencing e.g Zoom, Skype, Facetime, Whatsapp and so
many other apps able to do it.
