ELL815 MIMO Wireless Communications
Course Handout
Course Instructor: Dr. Manav Bhatnagar
Text Book: Space Time Block Coding for Wireless Communications by Erik G. Larsson and Petre
Stoica and Introduction to Space-Time Wireless Communications by Arogyaswami Paulraj,
Dhananjay Gore, and Rohit Nabar
Course Objectives: To provide an introduction to multiple antennas based wireless
communications. The course covers fundamentals of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO)
communication system. The basic quantities like diversity, coding gain, array gain are introduced.
The error rate of the MIMO systems is analyzed in detail. The MIMO information theory is also
covered. The concept of transmit and receive diversity, beamforming and combining, and space-
time block code are also thoroughly explained. The precoder design and multiuser MIMO is also
covered.
