Example Weighing Weighing Assuming Negligible,: Fig. Weight

1) A cable car weighing 60 kN rests on an inclined track at 60 degrees. Its centroid is 800 mm from the track halfway between its axles, which are 1.2 m apart. 2) The tension in the cable supporting the car is 51.961 kN. 3) The reactions at the upper and lower axles are 23.660 kN and 6.34 kN respectively.

Example 3.13. A roller weighing 2000 N rests on an inclined bar weighing 800 N as
shown in Fig. 3.24(a). Assuming weight of bar AB is negligible, determine the reactions devel-
oped at supports C and D.

Example 3.14. A cable car used for carrying materials in a hydroelectric project is at
rest on a track formed at an angle of 60° to horizontal. The gross weight of the car and its load
is 60 kN and its centroid is at a point 800 mm from the track halfway between the axles. The
car is held by a cable as shown in Fig. 3.25. The axles of the car are at a distance 1.2 m. Find the
tension in the cables and reaction at each of the axles neglecting friction of the track*.
