Would You Consider Encyclopedia Britannica's Decision To Discontinue The Printing of Hardbound Volumes A Strategic Move? Why or Why Not?

Encyclopedia Britannica's decision to discontinue printing hardbound volumes was a strategic move, as high printing and distribution costs made hard copies obsolete in the digital era where people research topics online. While some felt inferior online sources contributed to the change, Britannica can remain relevant if it offers accessible digital content through a viable model like advertising or sponsorships. However, Wikipedia's free and convenient online format provides tough competition that hardbound books cannot match.

1.

Would you consider Encyclopedia Britannica’s decision to discontinue the printing

of hardbound volumes a strategic move? Why or why not?

-Yes because in this generation we are all using computers like me. People don't go to the
library and look up information. They sign on and use a search engine on the Internet. And
hard-copy encyclopedias can't cover all the topics that exist today adequately.

2. What were the disruptor that made the company arrive this decision?

- Because of high cost of printing and book distribution and the public’s acceptance of
inferior sources all contributed to the discontinuation.

3. Do you think that people will still use Encyclopedia Britannica even if it is not in
hardbound anymore?
A. If it is (pay walled) or free to use and they come up with a viable business model
based on advertising or sponsorship or academic credit, then free to used people will
always use Britannica and it could be a real competitor for Wikipedia.
B. since Wikipedia is a free site and Wikipedia is on the internet we could use it in to
easy way not like Britannica that we have to go in the library to search our needs.
