1 Purpose
This guide is about MAM (Mobile Application Management) which shares steps for managing
apps on devices without device enrolment.
This guide also answers the privacy concerns about information visible on user’s personal device.
2 Definitions and abbreviations
Terms Definition
Microsoft Application Management (MAM) is for securing Apps and to ensure
data is protected in case where end users access office applications on their
MAM
personal devices.
Microsoft Intune is a Microsoft cloud-based management solution that provides
Intune for mobile device and operating system management.

3 Prerequisites
Mobile Application Management (MAM) policies require Intune company portal app and Microsoft
Authenticator to be downloaded from Google Play store (Android) or Apple store (iOS) on your
mobile devices
After downloading Company Portal, no setup is required.

Only permitted apps can be used to access corporate data
The policy will restrict from taking screenshot or sharing the content from the apps.

5. What information can the organization see on my device
Your organization cannot see your personal information when you enrol a device with
Microsoft Intune. When you enrol a device, you give your organization permission to view
certain pieces of information on your device, such as device model and serial number. Your
organization uses this information to help protect the corporate data on the device.
What organization can never see:
• Calling and web browsing history
• Email and text messages
• Contacts
• Calendar
• Passwords
• Pictures, including what is in the photo app or camera roll
• Files
What organization can see:
▪ Device model, like Google Pixel
▪ Device manufacturer, like Microsoft
▪ Operating system and version, like iOS 12.0.1
▪ App inventory and app names, like Microsoft Word. On personal devices, your
organization can only see your managed app inventory. On corporate-owned devices,
your organization can see all app inventory.

▪ IMEI
