Summary of the Month-Long Activities

San Martin National High School held its National Reading
Month Celebration 2022, also known as PAMBANSANG BUWAN AT
ARAW NG PAGBASA from November 1 to November 30, 2022. DepED
Memorandum No. 389, mandated the conduct of Reading Month
Celebration Kick-off activity on November 7, 2022 but due to conflict
of the scheduled activities, SMNHS moved the said activity on
November 14, 2022. During the flag raising ceremony the school
conducted its kick-off activity, with the theme: Reading Month
Celebration: Rediscover, Rekindle and Relive learning experiences
through Reading. The activity started with the statement of purpose
by Ma’am Daisy Jane A. Lampadio, English Reading Coordinator and
followed by the presentation of activities by Ma’am Joy O. Cabrera,
Filipino Reading Coordinator. After the activities were presented, Sir
Ariel H. Jabonero the School Head emphasizes the importance of
reading in every individual not just in this reading month celebration.
Matrix of Activities
1. SHARE A BOOK DRIVE
San Martin National High School have two (2) donation
boxes, 1 box is placed at the Guard house and the other 1 box
is placed at the Multi-Purpose Hall. This is to ensure that
everyone can freely drop their storybooks as their donations.
2. READING PANTRY
The school set up its reading pantry at the makeshift
classroom. This area is accessible to all learners since it is in
between the classrooms currently used by the students. Every
learner is encouraged to read write the title and author of the
books they have read in their Reading Challenge Log.
3. BOOK TALK
The Filipino and English teachers of San Martin NHS give
a 10-minute allotted time to let the students share about the
book they have read from the Reading pantry and let them
showcase their Reading Log.
4. CLASSROOM-LEVEL READ-A-THON
Every day during Filipino or English subject every
volunteer learner is given a chance to retell a story from any
storybooks they have read. This is to develop among learners
the ability to recall events, organize ideas, talking with correct
pronunciation of words, proper diction and expression in order
to build their confidence.
5. ARAW NG PAGBASA CHALLENGE
Pursuant to Deped Memorandum no. 389, San Martin
NHS participated the conduct of nationwide synchronized
reading on November 28, 2022 at 9:00 AM. All students are able
to read with the guidance of their teachers.
6. SPELLING BEE
There were three participants per year level from Grade 7
to Grade 10. The objective of this activity is to enhance the
ability of the students to spell the given words correctly. It was
held in the SMNHS Multi-Purpose Hall on November 28, 2022 at
2:00 to 3:00 PM, during the Culmination program of National
Reading Month Celebration. Angeline J. Panabe, a Grade 10
participant was proclaimed as winner.
7. STORY TELLING
There was 1 participant per year level from Grade 7 to
Grade 10. The objective of this activity is to expose one’s ability
in talking with correct pronunciation of words, proper diction
and expression in order to build their confidence on stage. It
was conducted in the SMNHS Multi-Purpose Hall on November
28, 2022 at 9:00 to 11:00 AM, during the Culmination program
of National Reading Month Celebration. The Grade 10
participant was declared as winner.
8. READER’S THEATER
There were 10 to 15 participants per year level from Grade
7 to Grade 10 depending on the piece. The objective of the
activity is to develop creativity among students through reading.
It was conducted in the SMNHS Multi-Purpose Hall on
November 28, 2022 at 9:00 to 11:00 AM, during the
Culmination program of National Reading Month Celebration.
The Grade 9 participants were declared as winner.
9. SPOKEN POETRY
There was 1 participant per year level from Grade 7 to
Grade 10. The objective of this activity is to expose one’s ability
in talking with correct pronunciation of words, proper diction
and expression in order to build their confidence on stage. It
was conducted in the SMNHS Multi-Purpose Hall on November
28, 2022 at 9:00 to 11:00 AM, during the Culmination program
of National Reading Month Celebration. The Grade 10
participant was declared as winner.
10. JAZZ CHANT
There were 10 to 15 participants per year level from Grade
7 to Grade 10 depending on the piece. The objectives of the
activity is to develop creativity among students through reading
and expose their ability in chanting with correct pronunciation
of words, proper diction and expression in order to build their
confidence on stage.. It was conducted in the SMNHS Multi-
Purpose Hall on November 28, 2022 at 9:00 to 12:00 AM,
during the Culmination program of National Reading Month
Celebration. The Grade 9 participants were declared as winner.
The said activities were successfully done through the help and
cooperation of SAN MARTIN NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL teaching force and
school head, parents, students and stakeholders. Attach herewith are the
evidences of the month-long celebration.
