When we talk about modern technological advances many people think in the cell
phones, and this thought is correct because the cell phones really came to change
the world, owing to the cell phones ease the communications and permit have more
entertainment, nevertheless, not all people give a correct use to this tool, for
example, there are people who spend all day on the cell phone what generates cell
phone addiction (nomophobia) and causing himself psychological and medical
problems, for that reason we must have a control with the cell phone use.
Now let's talk about the origin of the problem, starting with the origin of the cell
phones. Okey nowadays the cell phones are intelligent, because you can make calls,
play video games, have social networks, have internet connection, listen to music,
take photos, make videos, etc. But the first cell phones, created in 1973 by Motorola
company, didn't have nothing of that, well you could only make calls, but the passage
of time the cell phones were evolving until we get to the first smartphone, created in
2007 by apple company, giving a big step in technological advance for
communication and the entertainment, being an accessible tool to everyone.
What is nomophobia? and Why do some people have nomophobia?
The nomophobia consists in the irrational fear of not having cell phone or being
uncommunicated, owing to some people having a cell phone, causes them a great
fascination for this tool, because the cell phones easier permit access to somethings
and the people that suffer nomophobia prefer pass the time on the cell phone than
pass the time in the real world, losing familiar ties and friendships ties.
Some nomophobia symptoms are:
● spend more time on the cell phone forgetting other activities.
● Feel fear or desperation of losing the cell phone.
● Use the cell phone in places where the cell phone use is prohibited or
dangerous.
● Look continually at the cell phone screen without had received notifications.
● Always have the cell phone on and sleep with it.
● Prefer communication by means of cell phones than in person.
● Generate debts for the use of cell phone.
Consequences of nomophobia.
Some studies revealed that nomophobia can generate bad nutrition, bad sleep
habits, Low performance in school and job, and more distraction in daily activities.
Moreover, the excessive use of the cell phone can generate a some health
problems, such as:
❖ Carpian tunnel syndrome (Excessive pressure in the nerve in the middle of
the wrist).
❖ Problems in the eyes.
❖ Neck contracts.
❖ More probability of having a tumor in the future, owing to electromagnetic or
radiofrequency fields, generated by cell phones and cancerogenic to humans.
❖ Obesity.
❖ Headaches
Also you could develop a some psychological problems, for example:
❖ Social phobia.
❖ Depression.
❖ Hyperactivity.
❖ Insomnia.
❖ Stress.
❖ Fury attacks.
How to treat nomophobia? and How to prevent it?
For treat nomophobia, the psychologists do an autococient test to people with cell
phone addiction, and from there the people can analyze their problems generated by
the excessive use of the cell phone, and can decide about the cell phone use time in
their day to day. Also many psychologists prefer to take people's phones away and
depending on the comportanment of the people without cell phones give a treatment.
We can prevent nomophobia, developing programs of information about cell phone
correct use to teens, this implies the need to implement adequate digital competence
and critical awareness regarding the use of information and communication
technologies.
My personal opinion
In my personal opinion this is a big problem that must be treated urgently, because
many people (specially teens), prefer to stand the time on the cell phone than in the
real world, affecting others, wanting to document ridiculous things and putting
themselves in danger. The best solution for me is that the fathers shouldn´t buy cell
phones their sons and the schools must have a information programs

In conclusion, nophobia is a psychological illness generated by the excessive use of
cell phones, which can cause an irrational fear of not having a cell phone, above all
some psychological problems and health problems, for that reason it is necessary to
have prevention and information programs to avoid and treat this problems.
