Eyes Open 4 Unit 4 Test – Audio Script

Narrator: Unit Four Test

Woman: Right, everyone. Today we’re going to make vegetable soup. It’s a very simple
recipe that doesn’t take long and if there’s any left, you can put it in the fridge.
In fact, it tastes nicer if you keep it for a day before you eat it, but it’ll keep in
the fridge for 2 or 3 days with no problem.
This soup hasn’t really got a name, because you can put in it whatever you like,
but it’s actually my grandmother’s recipe, so I thought we’d call it SEDGELEY
soup after her. That’s S–E–D–G–E–L–E–Y. But once you start creating your own
recipes, you can call it something different.
Now, ingredients. You need a good variety of vegetables, like carrots and
onions, and be sure to include potatoes, as they’ll make the soup thicker.
So, where to start? Well, first peel the vegetables and wash them well, then
chop them into small pieces. Then roast your vegetables for a short time in the
oven with a little oil – you get a much better taste if you do that.
Next, put the vegetables with some stock into a saucepan and boil them
together for a short time. You’ll need to blend them with a blender if you want
the soup to be smooth.
When the soup is ready, you can add anything you like to it before you serve it.
You can grate some cheese on top or my favourite is to mix some pasta into
the soup – cooked, of course! And a slice of good bread is always great to
have with vegetable soup!
