Text: Matthew 17:1-9
Topic: The Transfiguration of Christ
Theme: “KNOWING JESUS MORE”
(Historical Background of the story)
The Transfiguration was a VISION, a brief glimpse of the TRUE GLORY of the King. This
was a special revelation of Jesus’ DIVINITY to three of the disciples. And it was DIVINE
AFFIRMATION of everything Jesus had done and was about to do.
*WHY JESUS CHANGED?
*Ipinakita ni Hesus ang bagay na ito sa kanyang mga alagad (Peter, James & John) upang
magpakilala na siya’y tunay na Anak ng Diyos at upang subukin din ang kanilang
pananampalataya sa kanya.
TRIVIA: Jesus spends his 3 years of ministry on earth with his disciples.
*DO YOU REALLY KNOW GOD?
*GAANO MO SIYA KAKILALA?
HOW CAN I REALLY KNOW GOD?
A. THROUGH EXPERIENCING WITH HIM
FACTS: “Experience is the best teacher.”
Experience is necessary for applying work or job.
*Magmula sa mga naging karanasan mo mula bata ka hanggang ngayon, ilang pursyento
(%) kaya ang karanasan mo na kasama roon ang Panginoon?
VERSE 1: And after six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John his brother, and
led them up a HIGH MOUNTAIN by themselves.
COMMENTARY: Mouth Hermon or Mount Tabor
*This mountain was the SAME Mountain that God revealed to Moses and
Prophet Elijah.
LESSON: kung ipinaranas ng Diyos ang ganitong karanasan kila Moses, Elijah at ganoon
din kila Peter, James at John na sila’y kapwa nag-pagamit at nagtagumpay sa pagsunod
sa ating Panginoon, maari rin itong iparanas sa ating ng Panginoong Hesus upang tayo’y
magtagumpay rin na kasama niya!
EXAMPLE:
THE STORY OF MOSES: He delivered the Israel from slavery in Egypt.
THE STORY OF ELIJAH: he became the most popular prophet in his time.
THE STORY OF THE DISCIPLES: because of Jesus, they were able to continue the ministry
that Jesus teaches them to tell the good news to all nations.
APPLICATION: Tayo ay makakalaya mula sa paghihirap katulad ni Moises, tayo ay
makikilala na mga tunay na Kristiyano katulad ni Elias at tayo ay magpapatuloy na
magpapahayag ng magandang balita tungkol sa ating Panginoong Hesus katulad ng
ginawa ng mga alagad. Kung silang lahat ay nagtagumpay dahil sa karanasan na kasama
ang Panginoon tayo ay magtatagumpay din na kasama ang ating Panginoon!
B. THROUGH LISTENING TO HIM
VERSE 4: And Peter said to Jesus, Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will
make three tents here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.
COMPOUND CHAPTER (MARK 9:2-13)
*Pinangunahan ni Pedro ang ating Panginoong Hesus sa kung ano ang gagawin.
Bagama’t okay naman ang naisip niya ngunit mali ito sa paningin ng Panginoon.

So, faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
1 SAMUEL 15:22
Sinabi ni Samuel, akala mo ba’y higit na magugustuhan ni Yahweh ang handog at hain
kaysa ang pagsunod sa kanya? Mas mabuti ang pagsunod kay Yahweh kaysa
paghahandog. At ang pakikinig ay higit sa haing taba ng tupa.
IN OLD TESTAMENT ERA, THE PEOPLE OF GOD SPEAK TO HIM FACE TO FACE.
GENESIS 32: 30
So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying “It is because I saw God FACE TO FACE, and yet
my life was spared.”
DEUTERONOMY 5:4
The Lord spoke to you FACE TO FACE out of the fire on the mountain.
FACTS: GOD SPEAKS TODAY IN DIFFERENT THINGS.
WHAT SHOULD I DO? LISTEN TO GOD!
C. THROUGH BELIEVING IN HIM
*Ang isang sakit ng mga alagad ni Hesus ay KULANG SA PANANAMPALATAYA (Lack of
faith) na kailangan pang magpakita ang Panginoon ng mga himala o kamangha-
manghang bagay na di kayang gawin ng ordinaryong tao upang sila’y maniwala sa kanya.
APPLICATION: it is easy to say “I know God” but sometimes in times of troubles and
difficulties we forget who God is.
CONCLUSION: Jesus on the Boat
*Do you really know God?
