INTRODUCTION
Background of the study
Before analyzing human interaction with cellphone. It is important to understand the definition of
addiction and addictive characteristics. Behavioral addiction versus substance addiction;

devices can interfere with work, school, and relationships. When you spend more time on social media
or playing games than you do interacting with real people or you can’t stop yourself from repeatedly
checking, texts, emails, or apps even when it has negative consequences in your life it may be time to
reassess your technology use.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
This research aims to know the effect of cellphone addiction in senior high school at Bagong Silang II
National High School Labo Camarines Norte.
1. What are the demographic profile of the respondents in term of;
A. Age
B. Gender
C. Economic Status
2. What are the effect of cellphone addiction to the student in Senior High School of Bagong Silang
II National High School?
3. What are the advantage and disadvantage of using cellphone in academic performance of the
student?

Hypothesis
Null Hypothesis
There’s a negative effect of cellphone addiction to the grade 12 students of Bagong Silang II National
High School.
Alternative Hypothesis
There’s a positive effect of cellphone addiction to the grade 12 student of Bagong Silang II National
High School.

SIGNIFICANT OF THE STUDY
This study have a great impact to the following:
Students: By the help of this study they will know the importance and limitation of using cellphone as
material of the school
Teacher: By the help of this study they will know the effect of cellphone addiction as a learner material
of the student.
Future researchers: The study will be help for them because it will serve as their guide and serve source
of information for their future researcher.

Review of related literature and study
In addiction, a survey conducted in 2015 showed that 46 percent of americans reported that
they could not live without their smartphone ( Smith, 2015). Similar numbers can be observed in other
parts of the ( Western ) world (OECD, 2017). Therefore it should come as no surprise that in recent years
discussion about the (Potential) consequences of (Heavy) smartphone use have earned an important
place in societal debates (see, e.g. Eliahu, 2014; OECD, 2017). Simultaneously , the possible effect from
scientist in different disciplines. Performance (Choudhary & Velga, 2019) (b) sleep quality and quantity
(Demirci, Akgonul, & Akpinar, 2015); (c)anxiety, loneliness, and depression (Boumoleh & jaalouk, 2017);
(d) satisfaction with life (Samaha & Hawi, 2016); (e) social relationship (Chen & Peng, 2018) and (g)
attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (Ho et al., 2014). In addiction to the (potential) impact
peoples private life, smartphone use is also expected to interfere with individuals educational and
professional life. In particular, it has been related to tertiary students academic performance.
Smartphone ownership is highest among people aged 18-2 (Pew research center, 2018), an age group in
which students are highly represented. Moreover, there are many theoretical reasons based on which a
direct effect of (Heavy) smartphone use on academic performance is expected. We present a review of
the studies that have been published about addiction to cell phone.
Smartphone are mobile that have a computer like function. According to William and Sawyer
(2011), smartphone is a mobile phone with a microprocessor, memory, and built-in modem.
Smartphone is a multimedia phone that resulting in a luxurious gadget, where there are camera, music,
players, video, games , email access, digital television, GPS.

The light level used a cellular phone for important things or useful this like sorting of data,
transfer of files.
The moderate level used a cellphone addiction have negative effects for our lives, Nowadays,
Technology developers better. People all use their phone to make the social communication, to make
a call, text, use Facebook, Instagram, and all social media apps.
The heavy level used the cellphone for games, streaming all day their no time to rest or even eat
because addiction in games.
Smartphone offer several convenience in our life, but we also need to be aware of the negative
effect of smartphone use. The most concerning aspect being smartphone addiction is a phenomenon
that pertains to uncontrollability of smartphone use. People with this problem encounter social
psychological, and health problem specifically, adolescents are high risk group for smartphone addiction.

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
According to the HACKCOLLEGE SMARTPHONE is one of the ICT (INFORMATION
COMMUNICATION AND TECHNOLOGY) product that gradually penetrates into student’s daily activities
and becomes part of their lives. India, according to a study from Australia market research company,
Roy Morgan research, smartphone are seeing a significant uplock in oner in Indonesia. It’s also been
found that between March 2012 and 2013, smartphone ownership double from 12% of the population
to 24% (EMARKETER:2013).
The significant growth of smart phone ownership among student nowadays new connection and
after students attitudes towards the technology item. Lately, students become strongly attached to their
level. Hough (2011) highlights the extreme influence of technology through the studies by researchers
which reveals that four in five students have significant mental and physical distress, panic, confusion,
and extreme isolation when forced to unflag from technology for an entire day. The globe confess to get
addicted on modern technology such as mobile phones, laptops, television, also the addiction include
the social networking such as Facebook and twitter.
