GUIDELINES & MECHANICS
for Intramurals 2023
November 10 - December 1, 2023
MAJOR EVENTS
MR. AND MS. INTRAMURALS
I. MECHANICS
1. Each year level must each have one male and one female candidate.
2. Candidates from each grade level must have two (3) assistants: one
stylist, one make-up artist, one hair-stylist. They are in-charge of giving
style inspirations for the outfits, hair and makeup.
3. The pair must prepare two (2) outfits for the photoshoot:
a. PHOTOSHOOT OUTFIT #1: semi-formal attire (the color of their
attire is based on their batch year color)
b. PHOTOSHOOT OUTFIT #2: Hunger Games-inspired
c. Candidates may begin their photoshoot at the scheduled time
given. Photos for PHOTOSHOOT 1 will be released on
November 13, 2023, and will be closed and counted on
November 24, 2023.
4. The pair must prepare three (3) outfits for the pageant:
a. PAGEANT OUTFIT #1: Denim-inspired (with their theme shirt
per year level)
b. PAGEANT OUTFIT #2: Hunger Games-Inspired
c. PAGEANT OUTFIT #3: Sports Attire
d. PAGEANT OUTFIT #4: PE Uniform (for the introduction of
candidates during the opening ceremony)
5. Photos of the candidates will be posted at the Alabel National Science
High School Main Building. The amount of piso per vote shall be
counted and will be the basis for People’s Choice Award. Voting shall
end on November 24, 2023.

6. The Q&A portion will be rated according to its relevance, substance,
and value.
7. The candidate may only use English as a language in answering the
question.
8. Compliance with the rules and instructions herein set forth is highly
valued. For every failure to comply, five (5) percent of the points shall
be deducted from the rating/score.
9. The decision of the judges is final and irrevocable. Respect the
decision of the judges.
Guidelines for Photoshoot:
PHOTOSHOOT 1:
1. The photos must feature the candidates with their respective attires.
2. All photos must be in portrait shot (shoulder level shot/headshot).
3. Three (3) photo shots are only given for each candidate.
4. The attire for PHOTOSHOOT 1 is “semi-casual attire”.
PHOTOSHOOT 2:
1. The photos must feature the candidates with their respective attires.
2. All photos must be in portrait shot (full body shot)
3. Three (3) photo shots are only given for each candidate.
4. The theme for PHOTOSHOOT 2 is “Hunger Games-inspired”.

BATTLE OF THE BANDS
I. MECHANICS
1. Each group will perform to any music as long as there are no obscene,
lewd, or green words in the lyrics. (note: too much amplification of
instruments that will obscure or overpower the volume of the vocals is
not allowed).
2. Each group will perform their choice of music with a time limit of 5-8
minutes. Beyond this limit, a total of five (5) points will be deducted
from the group’s total score.
3. Each group will have a minimum of 5 members and a maximum of 8.
4. The members of the group may be composed of all males or females,
or any combination of both.
5. The use of pyrotechnic gadgets, smoke or combustible materials as
props are not allowed.
6. The hiring of a band coach is prohibited.
7. Practicing outside the school premises is prohibited.
8. Failure to follow the rules will lead to disqualification.
II. CRITERIA FOR JUDGING
1. PLANNING/ PREPAREDNESS – 20 %
➔ Evidence of performance planning.
➔ Preparation. Tuning – were the instruments and equipment
made ready prior to performance? Did the band start on time?
➔ Evidence of rehearsal e.g. lyrics learned, etc.? Appeared ready
and prepared to play?
2. ORIGINALITY - 30 %
➔ Material. How unique did the songs sound? Did the songs fit the
set? Did the songs fit the genre?
➔ Appearance. Did the band look original? Did the band stand
out?
➔ Improvisation. Did the band demonstrate any level of original
improvisational skill?

interact effectively on stage? How did the band cope with any
problems they may have encountered?
➔ Conformance to contest rules. Did the band follow the rules
stated in the contest (no profanity)
5. PRESENTATION - 20%
➔ Attitude. Did the band's on-stage attitude appear suitable to the
contest genre?
➔ Appearance. Did the band show personality on stage? Did the
band appear to enjoy what they were doing?
➔ Entertainment factor/ Showmanship. Did the band entertain? Did
one or the entire band display showmanship towards the crowd?

MASS DANCE
I. MECHANICS
1. Each year level must have a minimum of 30 and a maximum of 50
performers.
2. The song will be supplied by the MAPEH CLUB Organization.
3. The dance should be easy and simple to follow and not difficult to
execute.
4. Execution of dangerous acts will automatically disqualified.
5. Wearing of costumes and use of props are allowed.
6. The hiring of a choreographer is prohibited.
7. Practicing outside the school premises is prohibited.
8. Failure to follow the rules will lead to disqualification.

BENCH YELL
I. MECHANICS
1. Each grade level is required to participate, with a minimum of 20 and
a maximum of 30 participants per entry.
2. Each team will have a set time limit of 3-5 minutes to showcase their
cheers.
3. Vulgar words or profanities are prohibited.
4. Members of the bench yell competition are permissible to wear
costumes and props.
5. The hiring of a choreographer/coach is prohibited.
6. Practicing outside the school premises is prohibited.
7. Failure to follow the rules will lead to disqualification.

BASKETBALL
I. MECHANICS
1. This event is only open to boys.
2. The format of the game will be single elimination.
3. Each grade level must have one team with a minimum of eight (8)
players and a maximum of ten (10) players only to allow for
substitution.
4. Each team will have two (2) minutes of call time. Failure to show up
within the given time will automatically be deducted ten (10) points from
their total points.
5. The rules of the game will be the same as in the 2013 MILO® LITTLE
OLYMPICS format.
6. All players shall play at least one (1) quarter BUT not more than
three (3) quarters and MUST be rested for one (1) quarter.
7. The game will consist of four (4) quarters of ten (10) minutes each.
8. There shall be intervals of play of one (1) minute between the first and
second quarter (first half), between the third and fourth quarter (second
half), and before each overtime.
9. There shall be a half-time interval of play of five (5) minutes.
10. One (1) time-out for every quarter shall be granted to each team for
the first three (3) quarters and two (2) time-outs shall be granted in
the fourth (4th) quarter, and one (1) time-out for every overtime.
Unused timeouts shall not be carried over to the next quarter.
11. In case the score is tied at the end of the fourth quarter, the game will
continue with as many overtimes of two (2) minutes duration each as
necessary to break the tie.
12. The referee/s and the teacher-facilitator/s will have the right to stop the
game at any moment if tension and too much physicality are present
among the players.

13. Players are required to respect the call of the referee at all times, and
utter disagreement means the ejection of the player from the game.
14. The hiring of a coach is prohibited.
15. Practicing outside the school premises is prohibited.
16. Failure to follow the rules will lead to disqualification.
II. RULES
● Any player/coach, who is penalized with a Disqualifying Foul and
ejected because of flagrant unsportsmanlike action/conduct, shall be
penalized accordingly plus an additional 1-game suspension or total
disqualification or banned from further participation, depending on the
gravity of the offense.
● Uttering/shouting of obscene, foul language, bad words or verbal
abuse from players/coaches to opponents/officials or teammates shall
not be tolerated. Such an act shall be dealt with a warning or a
Technical Foul.
● Teams shall keep and leave their bench areas clean and orderly.
Non-compliance shall be dealt with a Warning for the first offense,
Technical Foul for the second offense.

VOLLEYBALL
I. MECHANICS
1. The format of the game will be single elimination.
2. Each year level must have 1 team for male and female. Each team
must have 10 players. (1) Setter, (1) middle blocker, (1) outside hitter,
(1) opposite hitter, (1) libero, and (1) serving specialist. We will allow
substitutions.
3. Each team will have two (2) minutes of call time. Failure to show up
within the given time will automatically be deducted ten (10) points from
their total points.
4. Flipping a coin will be used to determine which team will serve first.
5. 6 players on the floor at any one time - 3 in the front row and 3 in the
back row
6. Maximum of 3 hits per side
7. Points are made on every serve for the winning team of the rally
(rally-point scoring).
8. Players may not hit the ball twice in succession. (A block is not
considered a hit.)
9. The ball may be played off the net during a volley and on a serve.
10. A ball hitting a boundary line is in. A ball is out if it hits the floor
completely outside the court, any of the net or cables outside the
antennae, the referee stand or pole, or the ceiling above a
non-playable area.
11. It is legal to contact the ball with any part of a player’s body.
12. It is illegal to catch, hold, or throw the ball.
13. A player cannot block or attack a serve from on or inside the 10-foot
line. After the serve, front-line players may switch positions at the net.

14. Matches are made up of sets; the number depends on the level of play.
3-set matches are 2 sets to 25 points and a third set to 15. Each set
must be won by two points. The winner is the first team to win 2 sets.
15. The hiring of a coach is prohibited.
16. Practicing outside the school premises is prohibited.
17. Failure to follow the rules will lead to disqualification.
II. FOULS
● Stepping on or across the service line when serving while making
contact with the ball.
● Failure to serve the ball over the net successfully. ( A point will be given
to the opposite team)
● Ball-handling errors and contacting the ball illegally (double touching,
lifting, carrying, throwing, etc.)
● Touching the net with any part of the body while the ball is in play.
● Crossing the court centerline with any part of your body, with the
exception of a hand or foot. It is only considered a violation if the entire
hand or entire foot crosses the court centerline.
● Serving out of rotation or out of order. ( A point will be given to the
opposite team)
● Back row player blocking (deflecting a ball coming from the opponent)
when, at the moment of contact, the back row player is near the net
and has part of their body above the top of the net. This is an illegal
block.

KICKBALL
I. MECHANICS
1. This event is only open to girls.
2. The format of the game will be single elimination.
3. Each team should have nine (9) members which must include one (1)
pitcher, one (1) catcher, two (2) inner fielders, two (2) outer fielders,
and four (4) in bases.
4. Each team will have two (2) minutes of call time. Failure to show up
within the given time will automatically be deducted ten (10) points from
their total points.
5. Each game shall have two (2) participating teams: The Away team,
which kicks first each inning, and the Home team, which kicks last each
inning.
6. The object in a Kickball match is for one team to score more runs than
the other, thus winning the game. Each player tries to do this by kicking
the ball and running all the bases and scoring a point. When not
kicking, the opposing team attempts to prevent opposition players from
scoring runs and get them out by catching the ball or being forced out
of a base.
7. A run is scored when a runner safely reaches the home plate before
the end of an innings
8. All kicks must be made by foot. A kicker can be called out if they get
3 strikes or 4 foul balls.
9. On an overthrow, the runner may advance at their own risk. They are
allowed to run more than one base if they want. But there should only
be one runner inside a base.
10. Balls must be pitched by hand. There are no restrictions on pitching
style.

11. A player can be out in Kickball when: The ball is caught by an
opposing team member; They are tagged out by an opposing
player.
12. Each team gets three outs per inning.
13. Regulation games last five (5) innings.
14. The team with the most points at the end of the 5 innings wins the
game.
15. The hiring of a coach is prohibited.
16. Practicing outside the school premises is prohibited.
17. Failure to follow the rules will lead to disqualification.
II. FOULS
● A kicked ball landed in foul territory.
● A kicked ball touched in foul territory.
● A kicked ball landing in fair territory, but touching foul territory on its
own at any time before reaching first or third base.
● A kicked ball whose direction is altered by contact with any object other
than the ground in foul territory, and called as such.
● A kick made on or above the knee.
● A ball that is stopped outside the kicking box by the kicker.
● A kicked ball touched more than once or stopped in the kicking box by
the kicker.
● A kicked ball kicked outside of the kicking box.

SEPAK TAKRAW
I. MECHANICS
1. This event is only open to boys.
2. The format of the game will be single elimination.
3. The team should consist of five (5) members: three (3) court players
and two (2) sub players.
4. Each set shall be played by two (2) teams of three (3) players.
5. Each team will have two (2) minutes of call time. Failure to show up
within the given time will automatically be deducted ten (10) points from
their total points.
6. The team to serve first is decided by a coin toss before the match
commences.
7. Play begins when the server is thrown the ball by a teammate and
must then kick the ball over the net whilst keeping one foot in the
service circle.
8. Players may only touch the ball with their feet, head, knees and chest.
Touching the ball with the hand or any other part of the body can result
in a fault and a point for the opposition.
9. Each team is allowed a maximum of three (3) touches of the ball to
return it back over the net without letting it touch the ground.
10. Failure to return the ball over the net before it hits the ground results in
a point to the opposition.
11. Points are always scored in Sepak Takraw by the opposition foul.
12. The first team to reach twenty-one (21) points wins a set. The first
team to win two sets is declared the winner.
13. The hiring of a coach is prohibited.
14. Practicing outside the school premises is prohibited.
15. Failure to follow the rules will lead to disqualification.
