COURSE PLAN
Course planning refers to planning course of instruction. In curriculum planning, there were keys to successful teaching and good planning. It
severs as a guideline for the teacher as well as for the students in creating for the students in creating the atmosphere conductive for worthwhile
learning and purposeful activities.
A course plan may be defined as a complete series of studies leading to graduation or a degree as in the case of BSc. Nursing to graduation or a
degree as in the case of BSc. Nursing course requiring completion of several short courses.

PURPOSES OF COURSE PLANNING


• To ensure autonomy.
• It gives stability.
• It helps to solve the problem.
• It supports the curriculum process.
• It secures future progress.
• It brings about improvements.
• It promotes utilization of resources.

M.Sc. Nursing or Master of Science in Nursing is a postgraduate Academic Nursing course. The Course deals with the healthcare profession
focused on the care of individuals, families, and communities so they may attain, maintain, or recover optimal health and quality of life from
conception to death. The duration of M.Sc. in Nursing is mostly of two academic years. The Course is available both in full time and a part-time
basis.
It is observed that there is an acute shortage of nursing faculty in under graduate and post graduate nursing programme in India. Indian Nursing
Council believes that:
• Post Graduate programme is essential to prepare nurses to improve the quality of nursing education and practice in India. .
• Post graduate programme in nursing builds upon and extends competence acquired at the graduate levels, emphasizes application of relevant
theories into nursing practice, education, administration and development of research skills.
• The programme prepares nurses for leadership position in nursing and health fields who can function as nurse specialists, consultants, educators,
administrators and researchers in a wide variety of professional settings in meeting the National priorities and the changing needs of the society.
• This programme provides the basis for the post-masteral programme in nursing. Further the programme encourages accountability and
commitment to life-long learning which fosters improvement of quality care.

Practical

• Maximum number of 10 students per day per specialty.
• The examination should be held in clinical area only for clinical specialties
• One internal and external should jointly conduct practical examination
• Examiner – Nursing faculty teaching respective specialty area in M.Sc. nursing programme with minimum 3 years’ experience after M.Sc
nursing.
Dissertation
Evaluation of the dissertation should be done by the examiner prior to viva Duration: Viva-voce -minimum 30 minutes per student

Course Description: This course is designed to assist students to develop a broad understanding of Fundamental Principles, concepts, trends and
issues related to education and nursing education. Further, it would provide opportunity to students to understand, appreciate and acquire skills
in teaching and evaluation, curriculum development, implementation, maintenance of standards and accreditation of various nursing educational
programs.

Objectives
At the end of the course, students will be able to:

Course Description
This course is common for the students undergoing clinical specialty-II in neuro science nursing/cardiovascular & thoracic nursing/critical care
nursing/oncology nursing/orthopedic and rehabilitation nursing/nephro & urology nursing, gastroenterology nursing/ geriatric nursing.
It is designed to assist students in developing expertise and in depth knowledge in the field of medical Surgical Nursing. It will help students to
appreciate the patient as a holistic individual and develop skill to function as a specialized Medical-Surgical Nurse. It will further enable the student
to function as educator, manager and researcher in the field of Medical – Surgical Nursing.
