Course Objectives
• Why it is important to learn about computers today
and discuss several ways computers are joined into our
business and personal lives.
• Define a computer and describe its primary
operations.
• Identify the major parts of a personal computer,
including input, processing, output, storage, and
communications hardware.
• Define software and understand how it is used to
instruct the computer what to do.

Wide Web are, as well as how computers, people, and
Web pages are identified on the Internet.
• Understand the basics of e-mail programs and web

Interactive Learning Methods
• Students will examine interactive learning using
presentations.
• Applying mini-projects implementation during lab
sessions.
• Individual assignments will be required and
assessed weekly during lab session.

Attendance and Warnings
• Attendance will be calculated for both lectures
and practical sessions.
• Warnings and forced withdraw (FW) will be
announced on “student absent report” on your
Power Campus account according to: -
• In case student’s absence reached (in Lectures
or Practical):
• 10%, student will receive warning 1.
• 20 %, student will receive warning 2.
• 25%, student will be Forced Withdraw (FW).

Introduction to Computers
❖ Why learn about Computer and Technology?
Whether you are teacher, doctor, engineer, restaurant
manager, salesperson or musician, computers are used to
obtain information and to communicate with others.
Computer can be used without understanding the technical
details of how it works. However, knowing about computer
help you buy the right one for your needs.
Therefore, Computer literacy – knowing about and
understanding computers and their uses -is an essential skill
for everyone.

The history of computers is often referred to in terms of
Generations
Each new generation is characterized by
a major technological development
First-generation computers: Vacuum tubes.
Second-generation computers: Transistors.
Third-generation computers: Integrated circuits(ICs)
Fourth-generation computers:
Ultra Large-Scale Integration (ULSI) for Microprocessors.
Fifth-generation computers
Advanced Computers and Robots based on Artificial Intelligence
(AI)

1-Computing devices in the home
Home computing: Computer is used in Watching TV, videos and Downloading
music and movies, paying bills.
Smart devices such as refrigerators, ovens, Monitoring air conditioning on or off
2-Computing devices in Education
College campus have a wireless hotspots that allow students to connect their devices
wirelessly to internet.
Distance learning: Students participate from locations other than the traditional
classroom using computers and Internet access.
3-Computing devices On the Job
Computer is used at all types of businesses, Including:
Traveling sales professionals
Police officers
4-Computing devices On the Go
ATM transactions.
