Assess the importance of mobile communication technologies as a component of

modern communication networks

Suitability of mobile networks to education

In these changing times, students are more driven towards using a mobile phone for every
purpose. The world is at the fingertips and a student can get access to any information
from anywhere. This reduces the chance of visiting a library and searching for the data. A
mobile phone hence can be used for a number of such purposes. What makes the
information easily available is the mobile phone’s applications. Every mobile app has a
unique feature which offers its own set of services.

Learning is a continuous process and the focus has now completely shifted to eLearning.
Due to the mobile phones and the various feature-oriented applications, students can learn
at their pace and take their time at understanding things, as everything is just a click
away.

5 Advantages of Using Mobile Apps in The Classroom

1. New Learning Methods

The introduction of applications in the education sector has led to the introduction of new
learning methods. There are fun games available on mobile applications that indulge the
students into a healthy thought process and help them understand things from a different
perspective.

2. Enhanced Parent Teacher Communication

Parent-teacher communication apps help in building parent-teacher relations beyond the
walls of educational institutes. This facilitates teachers responding to the queries from the
parents regarding the development of their ward. It also helps in maintaining the
transparency in the education sector.

3. eBooks And Online Study

These days, students are generally very fond of online studying. This is where library
apps and book search apps come into the picture. These applications make it easy for the
students to search the appropriate study material in the mobile application. It keeps them
closer to the study material and helps them in segregating their studying materials over
the web.

4. Miscellaneous Functions
Various other student-related activities, such as online school payments and payments for
other purposes, can be made through mobile applications. It saves the effort to stand in a
queue and pay the fees for various purposes at school. Also, attendance-management apps
maintain the attendance of students, so that teachers can have a keen eye on the students.
It makes it easy for both teachers and parents to keep a track of the attendance of
students.
5. Decreased Communication Gap Between Students and The Institution
It can be said that, following traditional methods, institutes can not pay equal attention to
all students. Now, however, it is possible to reach out to all of them. School
communication apps make it possible to impart information to every student; they can
inform them about new schedules, different forums, various conferences, and social
school activities.

Suitability of mobile networks to commerce

Nowadays, as mobile devices become more and more common and gradually
become the replacement for traditional computers, mCommerce is on its trajectory to
become the main selling channel in the future thanks to its many proven advantages that
it brings to both large and small businesses.

1. Ubiquity
Ubiquity is what you talk about when mentioning mCommerce. Mobile commerce allows
brands to enter markets they’ve never considered before. Simply with a device that’s
connected to the internet, users can get any information anywhere with almost no extra
cost involved. It is the fundamental factor that separates mCommerce from traditional
brick and mortar stores, especially at a time when two-thirds of adults own a smartphone
like today.

2. Localization
Mobile commerce specializes in utilizing the information given by the users such as
locations to improve its service and consequently, to drive more revenues. It allows
brands to reach consumers at the right time, whether they’re browsing for an item in the
evening or shopping in a store during a lunch break. Geotracking technology and
programmatic advertising help retailers connect with these consumers in those moments
before a purchase decision, increasing the likelihood that the purchase will be completed.

3. Personalization
There’s nothing the users love more than tailored experience. It saves them the time, it
makes them feel valued, cherished and thus some of the most successful m-commerce all
utilize personalization to its fullest potential. Personalization has proven itself time and
time again to be the secret ingredient to e-Commerce success, especially at a time of
machine learning and AI as of now.

4. Dissemination
Some wireless infrastructure supports the simultaneous delivery of data to all mobile
users within a specified geographical area. This advantage of mobile commerce provides
an effective means to disseminate information to a large number of consumers.

5. Convenience
It should go without saying that convenience is one of m-Commerce’s trademarks. In a
world where everything is getting progressively more convenient, mCommerce shines
where traditional approaches failed.
Compared to its early days, mobile devices are getting increasingly easier to fit into your
pocket and more multi-purpose than ever. With just a few simple clicks on mobile
devices, customers can do shopping, banking, download media files, managing their
businesses…and more.

6. Better data
Mobile commerce provides brands with better consumer data, as it’s part of the entire
purchase process. In a traditional retail setting, the consumer comes into the store, makes
a purchase, and leaves. Little insight is gathered as to why they make the purchase. With
mobile commerce, brands can connect with these consumers from the moment of
discovery all the way through purchase, giving the brand access to valuable signals of
purchase intent.

7. Rapid expansion
Mobile commerce allows brands to avoid market saturation issues by changing their slant
and focus to differentiate themselves from competitors. As new markets open and are
discovered, they provide extensive sales opportunities to brands.

Suitability of mobile networks to journalism

Phones with built-in, high-quality cameras now allow journalists to carry everything they
need in their pockets. The benefits of mojo are that it is:

1. Affordable
The quality of video is no worse than on TV, and there are special professional
applications which allow video editing. A small bag containing things like a microphone,
a tripod, and some additional storage, is enough for creating news. Journalists may also
have a ‘hotspot’, an additional battery, and a light, but these are not absolutely necessary.
The bottom line is that only three things are vital - a phone, a tripod, and an external
microphone.

2. Portable
Even if you carry an external light and several filters, they won’t weigh too much. Mobile
journalists are free to choose where to go without weight being an issue. They can
produce high-quality news from almost any location on Earth - provided there is a stable
Internet connection. However, even if news is being created in some remote area where
no internet connection exists, that news can still be made available to the world as soon as
the reporter reaches a place where there is internet access. In general, a small bag,
containing everything necessary, will weigh under three kilograms.

3. Honest
Accurate news and real facts are broadcast by mobile journalists as watchers are able to
see a situation as it happens, online and without formatting or editing. Smartphones
become the watchers’ eyes; people can fully trust such reporting.
Another point is that people don’t hesitate to speak in front of mobile cameras. They do
hesitate when faced with professional equipment. It is for this reason that interviews
conducted in front of a smartphone tend to appear more natural.

4. Multi-channel
The Mobile journalism manual states that a smartphone is ‘an holistic journalism device’.
Reporters can use their phones to cut videos, record audio, take photos, and upload it all
to the Internet (to appear on sites, social media, etc.). This allows news to be broadcast in
a timely way, facilitates discussion with the audience, makes the receipt of instant
feedback possible, and means clients’ requests can be fulfilled.

2. Explain the interrelationship among key web technology concepts

Many organisations, groups and structures would not be able to function without the
Internet.

Downloading – obtaining data from another source, such as the internet or a remote
computer.

Uploading – transferring data from your own computer or device to another

computer or device.

The computer you use to connect to the Internet or any other network will have its
own address so it can send and receive data. This is called an Internet Protocol (IP)
address, also known as a domain name address and consists of at least four sets of
digits with up to three digits in each set. Each set is separated by a period. Example:
233.123.443.3

Electronic mail (e-mail)

This has taken over as one of the easiest, quickest and cheapest ways to communicate
with other people. An e-mail looks similar to a regular letter, except that it is written
on a computer then received and read on a computer. To use e-mail, you need
internet access, a mail server, an e-mail account with an e-mail address, and an e-mail
application.

Mail server – this is dedicated to handling incoming and out-going e-mails. Most
paid-for ISP packages include a mail server and there are many free mail services on
the Internet.

To use an e-mail account, you need to create an e-mail address. Here is an example
of a typical e-mail address: susan@mymail.com
The first part of the e-mail address is a unique name that identifies you. The @ sign,
used on all e-mail addresses, indicates the next part of the address, which is the name
of the mail server that handles your email.

To create and read e-mails on your computer, you need an e-mail application. This
creates a neat and easy-to-use layout. You can compose and store messages using a
variety of tools. Most people that run the Windows operating system use Microsoft
Outlook as their e-mail application.
.
Attachments – files that you attach to your e-mail and send to someone else.

Spam – e-mails that are sent to you but are not intended for you personally they are
sometimes called unsolicited e-mails or junk e-mails. Spam usually aims to sell you
something. They are considered a nuisance, because it clutters your mail server and
very few people take them seriously. Most email applications contain spam filters
that automatically detect spam and delete it or separate it from useful e-mails.

World Wide Web

The World Wide Web (WWW), often called the Web, is part of the Internet. It is a
collection of text, documents and many other types of information. When people say
“the Internet” they usually mean the Web.

You need a web browser to read and interpret the information stored on the Web.
The media are presented in web pages, usually written in Hypertext Markup
Language (HTML). This is the standard markup language used to create web pages.

Web page – a document set up in a form suitable for people all over the world to
view it. Web pages are made up of documents which may be text, graphics, music, or
videos. They contain hyperlinks to make them easier to navigate

Webpage
.Hyperlinks – these can be words, sentences or areas of a webpage. When you click
on a hyperlink, it takes you to another web page.

hyperlink

Web browser – A software application for accessing information on the World Wide
Web. Each individual image, web page and video are identified by a distinct URL,
enabling browsers to retrieve and display then on the user’s device.

Web browsers

Website – a collection of web pages, often on a particular topic or subject.

Websites

Web server
A system that delivers content or services to end users over the Internet. It consists a
physical server, server operating system, and software used to facilitate HTTP
communication.

To access a website, you need its address. This address is called the uniform
resource locator (URL) and it identifies where documents can be found on the
Internet. Each URL starts with http which stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol.
HTTP controls how web pages are transmitted. The URL for a bookshop could be
http://www.thefriendlybookshop.com

Protocol
A communications protocol is an agreed set of rules or procedures that control the
transmitting of data between electronic devices. If two devices are using the same
protocols, they can share information.

File Transfer
The internet is based on the transfer of files of information between computers
• When you upload a file, you put it on to a computer system that is connected
to the internet so that other people can access it.

• When you download a file, you copy it on to your own computer from the
internet.

File Transfer Protocol

The standard Internet Protocol for transmitting files between computers over the
Internet.

HTTP
Hypertext Transfer protocol is the protocol used to allow computers to share
webpages, it controls the communications between computers.
